My R8 had 60k on the clock

Dougs R8 has 9k on the clock iirc. It pulled strong figures....440PS with just a map
Re: B8 RS4 and engine carbon issues
I actually meant the other Dave lol I didn't know yours went on the rollers!! Mrc one is a Low miler ain't it, I'd assumed it would have been more run considering the abuse and testing its going to be out through

Re: B8 RS4 and engine carbon issues
Carbon buildup is inherent in any direct injection engine due to the lack of washing effect from atomised petrol in the intake manifold.RS6chris! wrote:Surely Audi must now be aware of the carbon issues dating back to the B7?
If so they must have tried to mitigate against them in this engine?

Except the Toyota DI engines....PetrolDave wrote:Carbon buildup is inherent in any direct injection engine due to the lack of washing effect from atomised petrol in the intake manifold.RS6chris! wrote:Surely Audi must now be aware of the carbon issues dating back to the B7?

But they cheat - they have direct injection and indirect injection. The indirect injectors fire something like every x pulses. Not enough to effect anything but enough to wash the valves.
Re: B8 RS4 and engine carbon issues
You would expect this as your looking at a 40k difference in price that's a lot of cash for little gain IMOGiven a healthy B7 is c.390, that's an extra 45PS plus a double clutch gearbox....gonna be quicker!
Re: B8 RS4 and engine carbon issues
It's not just the engine and gearbox you are paying for though is it. It's the whole package.Silas wrote:You would expect this as your looking at a 40k difference in price that's a lot of cash for little gain IMOGiven a healthy B7 is c.390, that's an extra 45PS plus a double clutch gearbox....gonna be quicker!

Re: B8 RS4 and engine carbon issues
That's very true,I drove past a black b8 the other day and was shocked at how understated and boring it looked, I like black cars my b7 is black, but I have to say the b8 for me is a bitter disappointment which is a shame as I would have snapped one up in a flash, it's not a big enough step up for me to want to buy oneIt's not just the engine and gearbox you are paying for though is it. It's the whole package.

Re: B8 RS4 and engine carbon issues
I'll be interested to hear how the B8's fair too. My B7 RS4 suffered so badly from carbon it started throwing EPC errors as the flaps in the manifold started jamming at 60k miles, the whole thing was absolutely coked in the stuff. Was a totally different car after a thorough clean.
Now I'm back in the Audi camp with a C6 RS6, which again is direct injection.... does anybody know how badly these suffer?

To add to this... at its worst with GruppeM RAM Air Intake, Large downpipes, high-flow sports cats, milltek exhaust system and a map to make it all work well my B7 produced a pathetic 361bhp when rolled... a de-coke pushed this up to 434bhp..

As far as I understand, the B8 RS4 engine is 99% the same as the RS5 Engine, and they're generally good for 440or so on the rollers from what I've read.RobBentley wrote:I'll be interested to hear how the B8's fair too. I'm sure most of the B8 RS4's will still be only a couple of K at most in, so will still be tight and new. The engine's are built well (as some of the ultra high milage ones still putting out big power in B7's shows), so the running in period is going to be a fair few K's in.
I had a chance to drag race a mate from 10-100ish recently in his B8 RS4 in my (Proven 410bhp) B7 and there was very little in if you ignore the super fast changes and closer ratio box of the B8.
I've decided I'm going to get my order in though as my B7 just feels long in the tooth now as much as I prefer the drive of it

There's deffo some variances in what B7s are making - but on the R8s there could be another reason...
The R8's 4.2 motor was tweaked in 2010/11 to make a newer spec 430ps model with lower emissions - perhaps DK's V8 R8 was the older model and Doug's the newer model?

Sounds like you had a vacuum problem that was fixed when putting back together the IM system.RobBentley wrote:To add to this... at its worst with GruppeM RAM Air Intake, Large downpipes, high-flow sports cats, milltek exhaust system and a map to make it all work well my B7 produced a pathetic 361bhp when rolled... a de-coke pushed this up to 434bhp..
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
