Off centre steering?
Re: Off centre steering?
Could have spend ages idling on a ramp, engine running?
Saw 6.2 mpg on S4 DIS when it came off ramps after a healthcheck!

Re: Off centre steering?
As above, probably spent time on the ramp running. Test drive mileage perhaps a little high but imagine that it went out twice, once with the Tech and then Workshop Controller for a QC check.

Re: Off centre steering?
Yeah, that's entirely plausibly
Techs at the new Swindon Audi are decent. Not like their previous place where I was once out on my bike and saw my b7 racing another car with one of the techs on a 'test drive' whilst in for a service

Re: Off centre steering?
I've got mine booked in at another dealer (not the supplying dealer who couldn't fix it) in a couple of weeks.
They seemed to have more of a clue on the phone, and have all the alignment and calibration stuff on site, so I'll see how they get on with it.

Re: Off centre steering?
Picked my car up two weeks ago with the steering wheel out of alignment.
It's in now for the forth time; starting to get really p.....d off now. I've done more miles back and forth to the dealer than any miles I've put on it!
When I picked it up on Friday I'm convinced the wheel was ok but within 1/2 mile it had gone to the right again.
They've told me it's sorted now and I'll go and pick it up tomorrow. We shall see.....
Oh, the s line a4 loaner steering is out of alignment.............
If they say it's normal there is no way I'll be able to live with it. I'm to ocd for that!
I shall be showing them this thread too....

Mine took quite a few visits to get sorted, and bizarrely, like your experience, the loaner car I had was even further out of alignment to the rightnastro azzurro wrote:Picked my car up two weeks ago with the steering wheel out of alignment.

Mine's now a couple of Deg out, which is barely perceptible, but it's going into Bath Audi for it's 2nd service in a couple of weeks, so we'll see if they have a better solution than Swindon Audi, who in the end replaced the steering rack and a motor in an attempt to rectify

Re: Off centre steering?
A couple of degrees I can probably live with.
It's got less than 500 miles on it so I can't believe they'd change the rack and motor.
Other than this, I love it and don't want anything else and to be honest I can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to reject it. I'd just rather they sort it.

The loan car I had was a 150mile old RS6 and the steering was miles off, more like 30deg. Crazynastro azzurro wrote:A couple of degrees I can probably live with.

Re: Off centre steering?
Mine went in to York Audi in January for it's first service and 4 new tyres.
Even though they didn't supply the car they re-calibrated all the steering and specifically the active cruise radar and lane assist, and did a full alignment all FOC as a good will gesture.
Still though, the steering's not right, well it is, it's always to the bloody right! Need to find the time to get it back there and demand a new rack I think.
Nastro, I'd ask your dealer to do a full re-calibration at first, not all dealers have the kit to do it, so do ask them...

Re: Off centre steering?
I had this problem on my A4 and now on the RS4. With the A4 I ended going to Audi UK and going through a very painful process of trying to get it sorted. It was corrected only by the master tech getting the car aligned first and then winding the toe across to center the steering rack with the steering wheel straight. It should be easy for any competent tech to sort but unfortunately they seemed to be too contrained by the alignment process they have to follow..
The RS4 is nowhere near as bad as the A4 was but I still took it back to the dealer. They didn't want to touch it as they couldn't tell it was out. I'm therefore going to take it to a specialist and get her sorted at my expense as audi are pretty useless.
The thing that puzzles me though is that every A4 and RS4 ive driven has been out by quite a margin which ruins the driving experience and could actually be dangerous. Audi must either set them up like that at the factory or there is a fundamental problem with the whole steering mechanism that the toe adjustment is correcting.

Re: Off centre steering?
Well, I have picked up my car and so far, ( 50 miles ) it's ok.
The ' master technician' came out with me to check I was happy as he had been the one who did the work this time.
He said they'd done another four wheel alignment and adjusted the toe in with some one holding the wheel whilst adjustment was done. I asked whether they had done a calibration reset and he looked a bit blank before saying no.
Anyway, I'm happy now but keep looking at the wheel alignment every three seconds! I'm sure I'll get over that though and can enjoy what is a great car.

Re: Off centre steering?
Glad to hear they sorted it! As a word of caution, don't let anybody else do a four wheel alignment on the car again without telling them to do the same thing. The A4 was sorted for a period of time and then I made the mistake of asking Audi to do another alignment to correct a pothole mishap and they basically put the car back as it was when I first took delivery! I couldn't believe it! Funnily enough I had an RS4 loaner while they had mine and the rest as they say is history...

Re: Off centre steering?
Just got my RS4 back from Doncaster Audi where they were fixing some warranty issues; one of them being the steering wheel being slightly out with a bias towards 10 to 4. It was only slightly out but as many have said, annoyed the t*ts off me. Doncaster have done full 4 wheel alignment and stated it was marginally out (in the red) on the rear axle - the left camber and left individual toe were marginally out of the target data (the required degrees / minutes plus or minus a few minutes). After minor adjustment all readings are now much nearer the target data figures, in the green and it is much much better. They assured me they have re calibrated the steering electrics etc as per ELSA, so let's see.... Done well over 100 miles now since getting it back, and it feels right too. Road camber does affect the position of the steering wheel slightly I know as with most cars, but I am very pleased with Doncaster Audi's work on this. The RS4 loan car I had was also slightly out too - why should this be? But I didn't really mind about it on the loan car.........
