Limp Mode due to high temperature

Post by Kingjames3419 » Thu Sep 21, 2023 8:19 am

Morning All, my 2013 RS4 went in to “limp mode”, reduced revs as temperature increased unusually. I stopped immediately and let the engine cool. No coolant or oil loss so have it booked in with Audi for diagnostic check. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m hoping it may be a sensor, thermostat or fan fault. Any advice or expertise would be gratefully received.

My 2013 had a similar error, with okay to drive but reduced revs, etc. Turned out to be a faulty temp sensor which was replaced under warranty (only pain was it took almost a week to be done as the part had to be shipped from Germany, apparently its not the same one that used on a standard A4)…

I had a defective water pump as well as a misreading thermostate.
Common issue on those cars.

This was due to a faulty thermostat which was replaced and she is now running like a dream. Audi Main Dealer quoted £920.00 but my Specialist did the job for considerably less.
