Possible new owner

Post by douglasgdmw » Tue Jan 23, 2018 4:44 pm

Hi,

I have a test drive arranged on Sunday for a 2014 RS4 Avant in Sepang Blue (Sports package, Panoramic roof, Driver assistance, B&O Sound, Privacy + Heated Front seats).

The dealership has provided me with the Service History as follows:
12/11/14 New Sales Event
29/02/16 Repair - Non Warranty
20/04/16 Oil Change Service (11,720 miles)
20/04/16 Used Car NPC
20/04/16 Repair - Non Warranty
21/04/16 Disowned
26/04/16 Used Sale (Approved)
07/09/16 Internal Service PDI (23,296 miles)
19/10/17 MOT passed

I have tried to get the information from the previous dealership on the Non Warranty items, however due to Data Protection they are unable to release information to me.

As the car is a trade in (being dropped off on Saturday for an RS6 I believe) would the Audi dealership be able to contact the other Audi dealership for that information once they are in possession?

Just want to make sure everything is kosher as we have put a deposit down on the vehicle already subject to test drive.

Already spoken to Audi spec dept and as the dealership did not update the system they are unable to provide me with any info.

Hi Doug
That's a good spec.
Odd that Audi are cloak and dagger over the warranty repair. Data protection my arse, you are not enquiring about ownership detail , just what has been repaired.
I would want to know before I made any offer.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning....

The rest I am ashamed of.

Yep happy with the spec as we test drove on last week with poverty spec and was not happy that it had the essential items.

I suspect one of our working cocker spaniels (who does not travelling in any car) may not like us going for the sports exhaust when he is in the car though !!!

Yep, the Date Protection Act is a complete nonsense sometimes and does more harm than good in these situations.

Audi customer service were quite willing but without the information in their system they cannot give it out. Sent an email to the salesman asking that he chase up the Audi dealership once they get the car in plus look at any invoices received with the car (if they get any).

Personally I always keep a detailed log of every receipt on a car and hand it across to the dealer but I suppose a lot of them just throw it away nowadays.

Here's hoping it goes well as need to make sure I am 100% happy with the car before putting my signature on the dotted line.

Thanks for that. Will make sure it is done.

As the car has got 25k, if it has not been done will the difference of 5k miles make much difference?

Also spoke to my local independent garage that I have used for our old Mk1 TT (he is not not an Audi independant so nothing to gain and deals with much more exotic cars than our humble TT) and he says the dealership is pretty useless so making sure I double check everything.

Personally I’d refuse to buy without knowing what those items are. Hopefully the dealer you’re buying from can get the info.

Data protection my arse - the previous dealer is either hiding something or just plain obtuse.

Just tell him it's a criminal offence to inappropriately cite the Data Protection Act. Then listen to him whimper and wish he'd worked harder at school.

Completely agree, however as I am based in Edinburgh a lot of the cars are a little bit further to travel. Ideally like to see a vehicle first before buying.

If the car is not to my liking, then happy to whip away my deposit and try and find another one. With the new RS4 about there will be a plentiful supply hitting the market.

Also put the VIN onto the MyAudi website and nothing came up unfortunately. Thanks for the hint though :)

Just tried again as found the Service Section :)

Unfortunately nothing on the "Non Warranty Repair" however I have discovered that the following has been carried out:
20/04/16 - Final drive oil @ 11,720 miles
06/09/17 - Final drive oil @ 23,296 miles

Looks like it has the propensity to be a good example, I'd wager that not many cars out there have the front final drive oil replaced on schedule. So finding one with that done, allows you to then buy Audi warranty and know the gearbox will be covered for peace of mind. The first 'repair' could well be a brake fluid change and those 2 final drive ones will also be non-warranty repairs, as they're chargeable.

Worth trying to work with the dealerships and suggest they black out any previous owner details. Also remind them that the previous owner details can't fully be hidden, as it will appear on the V5. These sort of things have enabled me to build up documented histories of cars I have owned in the past.

Good luck and best colour by the way

So guys/gals,

The test drive is on Sunday, any tips for anything to lookl out for on the test drive. Had a look in the faq but did not appear to be any checks/gotchas?

Will be arranging for a local detailer to come out to measure the paint depth to check for any damage. Dealer said HPI is clear but don't know whether that lists insurance repairs on the car as not inspected the document.

Stick it in dynamic but not sports transmission, let it warm up before trying to rag it (it wont pass 6k rpm until warm anyway).

Once it's warm, give it the beans. Then, stick it in sport and give it the beans. Then stick it in comfort and wonder why you'd ever use this mode...

When I had mine, it never came out of dynamic as I found the steering in comfort miles too light.

If by any chance you haven't heard one start up before they do sound a little rough,
like a bag of spanners for about 10 seconds, it then all calms down.

Selecting reverse takes a couple of seconds to drop into from drive due to the nature of the box.

Before driving select dynamic to hear the exhaust valves open and drive in both modes, comfort and sport.

To really get comfortable you're best to configure your own settings in individual but that will happen if you buy it.

Only real thing to look out for is engine surging and jerking during gear shifts.

Looks like you've covered most of the important stuff by checking the service history and it sounds a good spec.
Get them to do the sunroof service as well if it hasn't been done.
All the best for Sunday
