Front & Rear discs and pads

Post by MarkM » Tue Nov 28, 2017 6:52 pm

At 50k I think the time has come to change discs and pads all round. Too date I’ve only changed the front pads once

Just had a quote off Audi Leicester of £1250 for the fronts and £997 for the rears.

Anybody recommend anywhere else or tell me if that’s a good deal.

Would consider doing it myself if I could get the rear auto handbrake turned off to do them, fronts are easy

Just had a quote from Crewe Audi:

RRP on all the bits is £1826.46.Please see below for my prices-

Front pads - £318.00
Front discs - £660.00
Rear Pads - £66.00
Rear Discs - £576.00

Prices include free UK shipping with UPS.All items in stock ready to post.

Obviously doesn't include fitting but a good independant would see this right. Leicester Audi are notoriously expensive!

Thanks, ill drop him a mail. Feel pretty comfortable doing the fronts and surely it cant be that hard to do the rears with the electronic brake

Fronts are easy to do. I purchased a front pad set from Tom at Crewe Audi 6 months ago, price not too different then at £315. Audi recommend fitting a new pad retention kit as well.

Here's a how to guide on replacing rears on a RS5, this should be the same for us RS4 owners, but you'll need VCDS to retract the EPB.

Maybe a stupid question, but Given you can actually park the car without engaging the electronic park brake, would I be able to swap out the rear disc and pads without the VCDS procedure.

Don't think so, as the EPB only retracts part of the way back to help speed up the on/off process. Doing it via VCDS retracts it all the way back to reset for new pad/disc thickness.

Looking around online, some people have removed the EPB motor from the calliper, got a T40 and then wound the EPB clockwise which allows for the piston to be compressed back. You could try that (at your own risk)?

Thanks, I watched a video of somebody doing this on you tube, hmmm not sure, think a friendly local garage who has VCDS would be a better option

Again, looks easy enough and prefer it over the two wire & a 12v battery method. That way could certainly risk damaging the electric motors.

Roughly where are you located, perhaps there's a forum member with VCDS near you that can help? I'm in West Sussex and have VCDS, so can easily help.
