if it's of any help I've just paid £993 for all components cover and 15k on the mileage cover, for a 2014 car with 25k on the clock from Audi.

I had a engine fault code thrown up just before the warranty expired, so I figure I'm likely to get my money back at some point in the next 12months. If you are concerned about the DRC, consider it as insurance that will also cover the rest of the car for free.

If you like the car, I'd factor it into the purchase cost and try and chip the seller to cover the cost of the warranty (all components) ......
2006 RS4 Avant - Carbon Clean, Intake Ports Polished, HF Air Filter, MRC Remap
1998 Toyota Supra 3.0 TT - de-cat, bleed valve, UK Spec Brakes, HKS Springs & CW Dampers, Goodridge Lines, Pagid Pads & 360 RWHP
1990 Toyota Supra 3.0 T - de-cat, HKS Boost Controller (1.4 bar max), used as a daily drive for 110k miles on original turbo!
198x Granada 2.8i Ghia X - Can't remember the exact year - but a great car!

That's what I'm considering now Mark :)

I wonder why costs of the warranty are varying so much. Do you think Audi are clued up enough to look at the history of the car you plug into the quote generator and take that into consideration?

PS. having come from a B7 I'd agree that you won't regret it .... the B7 is great and the B8 is like taking the next step in the evolution ..... (but I'm not dissing the B7 in any way - fantastic car) .......

The gearbox still makes me giggle on the downshifts, feel like a right hooligan with the miltek fitted ...... brilliant!

What mileage option did you go for? from memory the costs jumped up when I chose 15k annual mileage.

The initial quote started out at £6xx something and then jumped up when I selected 15k

Selected the same as Sam had noted.

I only actually need < 10k miles and originally also selected named components (the only things I have even the remotest concern about are the DRC set up and the gearbox which are both covered under named I believe) and even that was over 1k (1,160 IIRC).

ouch .... print out the quote and use it to negotiate the price! All the seller can say is 'no' ... nothing to loose.... it will give you piece of mind.

or.... walk away and wait, there are a few around and more coming up I'm sure.....

That's odd?

Perhaps they know Mark's and my own car have both had new gearboxes; so have reduced the premium, as less risk

and my DRC shocks are sitting in the shed so even less risk of a claim!

if it wasn't for the fault code showing up I don't think I'd have bothered with the warranty .....

That's the other way of looking at the DRC issue, forget the warranty and factor in the cost for some new coilovers, though not sure how much they are, I'm sure a quick google will find the answer!

I Also purchased a 2013 RS4 and have had nothing but DRC issues. however mine had KW springs fitted by the previous owner which i believe has brought most the problems as the pressure wasn't changed after the lowering springs were fitted. Audi did say to me that as a good will gesture they would look into changing the DRC shocks (all 4 had 0 bar and wouldn't hold pressure) until they realised it had been lowered and then wouldn't touch it so slapped me with a £4000 quote to start (that was only replacing 3 shocks as they believe one may be ok but wouldn't know until 3 were replaced). so it might be worth a call to Audi UK as they did mention to me they would help out if i had full audi history.
i think the majority of dealers say the knocking is Normal and Audi UK offered to put this in writing for me.
i love the car but the DRC system is going. I'm having bilstein coilovers with Accuair E-Level fitted next week. yes its costing more than getting a new DRC setup but the height control will be very handy, hopefully much more reliable and no more knocking!
No regrets buying the car whatsoever just a little annoying about the DRC - probably the best sounding car i have owned!

Am familiar with DRC on RS4s having had my B7 a while, but thought I'd ask here anyway to make sure I'm not being over cautious...

A car I'm interested in had a few advisories at its last MOT (December), including "Both front Shock absorbers have a light misting of oil".

On normal suspension this wouldn't worry me. But on DRC, it's making me cautious.

Rightly so? Or stop being a wuss and go for it?
I know it has progressed since this topic was posted, but having been through the DRC avenue to some considerable tune, apparantly the information with Audi dealers is that a slight misting is acceptable, but leaking is not. I take this as a visible 'wet' leak is a defect, whereas a 'dampish' stain is acceptable. This is a different issue to any knocking, unless a misting shock is also knocking of course.
If a leaking shock is the only symptom (if replaced under warranty) it will only be replaced with the standard shock; the uprated ones are only fitted for confirmed knocking issues.

Thanks Johnny.

The "problem" I have with that is that even a light misting means oil is getting out somewhere. Which I would think would make a full on leak more likely.

The dampers on my B7 are bone dry (tempting fate!).

I'd always assumed the knocking was a a by-product of a failed damper...and can only think that failure is down to them losing their oil (even if as a secondary issue - say seals failing etc).

?

Also...why are they still making the "standard" shock? This system is notorious for failures. Why not just supply the "new and improved" that cures all issues (maybe).

Worth pointing out chaps that the audi warranty price will vary a lot depending on if it has ever been out lf warranty. Sometimes it does not pickup approved used warranties. I was getting £2k quotes online then i rang them and as an extension to the approved cover it was £1k
