New B8 Owner - first RS

Post by L30NRS4B8 » Sat May 27, 2017 11:00 pm

Hi all,

had my RS4 B8 for a few months now so thought its about time i said hello.

2013 in sepang blue

came on KW springs with the DRC system on rotor wheels.

already spent about £4k at audi (discs, pads and major service but factored in purchase price) and the latest quote for the DRC problems is over £4k!!

love the car but so many DRC issues

anyone with lowering springs on the DRC shocks make sure you get your pressure adjusted after fitting, its killed 3 of the 4 shocks that now have 0bar (should be 20bar?)
looking at the receipts they were fitted about 10k miles ago so not lasted long.

great car but very expensive journey so far!

has anyone gone airbags or coil over route yet with these?

You should be able to get four new shocks from Audi parts department with a bit of discount if you haggle then contact unit 20 who are highly rated for drc, I currently have air ride on mine and getting it taken off due to destroying the drc shocks as well,

I have had hr springs, kw springs and now airbags on the rs4, and the hr springs have give no problems what so ever, you could adjust your kw to hr ride height to give the drc shocks a better life

If you bought your car from an Audi dealer less than 12mths ago AND it still as a full Audi Service History, try to get the DRC replaced FOC under the new 'technical bulletin' that was recently released. The DRC shocks are being replaced on the B8 under warranty, but only for cars in a warranty period.

If it isn't then I'm afraid you're going to have to suck it up. Would I spend £4k on DRC?, nope I'd go fully adjustable. The only reason to keep DRC is if you want to keep the car fully OEM, but the fact you are running non OEM springs will negate that so IMO there's no point shoving silly money into more DRC that might fail.

This is true regards DRC and warranty work, mines going in beginning of June with new shocks to front and re-gas at rear ALL under warranty. If you bought it second hand from Audi as mentioned I believe they have 2yrs added but could and prob wrong on that? Welcome btw!

Thanks for the replies everyone,

first problem is i purchased it privately!!

Audi Uk did however agree to look into replacing the DRC due to it having full main audi history even though i didn't buy from them which i though was quite decent.

but then when it was first in they spotted the KW springs on the DRC and said they wouldn't help out and on further investigation it looks like that has caused most my issues. mainly that im running with 0 bar in now so the lowering had raised the pressure causing this to break the shocks. I've had the knocking from all corners since purchased but that seems to affect the majority of owners.

so I'm stuck with the bill now or to scrap the system all together. i was looking at the accuair system with bilstein shocks so it completely removes the drc but i gain height control. very expensive system at £5,500 fitted though. supposed to be a good solid setup. i know its cheaper for the DRC replacement but I'm just not confident in the system and if they still clunk it will be really annoying. audi still cant seem to sort the DRC system out even though its been around a long time now. I've been in a friends B7 and that clunked/knocked just the same as mine.

looked into a few specialists around my way (Nottingham/derby) found a brilliant one (autotechniks nottingham) but unfortunately they don't have the equipment yet to recharge.

don't mind at all not having a standard setup and yes it may de-value my car to some people but i have no plans on changing. anythings better than constantly scraping with any weight in the car!

thanks again to everyone who replied
