Spacers added

Post by RossDagley » Fri Apr 01, 2016 5:35 pm

Whilst changing back to my road pads this afternoon I've added the spacers (from virdee- who else) is ordered the other day.

Four things of note.

1. Car has serious stance. Hard to show in photos but I like.
2. I went for 10mm all round. Wondering if it's a fraction too wide and 8mm would have been better.
3. Hub has a little lip on it (from the factory). I've never noticed this before despite having the wheels off a few times to clean them. This meant issue 4 was amplified.
4. Had a HUGE problem getting one of the wheels off. Due to corrosion (alloy spigot / steel hub - genius) the wheels were all very tight to get off. One of the rears took me almost 5 minutes of beating on the whole wheel with a rubber mallet. Ballache! Photo shows corrosion.

Ps - no one please comment on how dirty the car is. It's only had a simple blast off with a jetwash (not even snowfoamed!) since coming back from Germany. :p

I'm running the same as you Ross, I think it's spot on tbh. Putting some copper slip on those hubs will help in future

This. Very quick rub with emery paper on the hub and the inside of the wheels to get the worst of the corrosion off. Then lots of copper grease. :beerchug:

Looks good. Can you notice a difference in the way the car drives now with the spacers on? I would like to get some for mine but would worry about the knock on effect with handling etc.....that said I am no racing driver and don't track my car.

Yes I'm serious Chris. There's visible water marks and dirty wheels. I'm know. For being a little ocd about car cleaning ... ;)

I've only done ~50 miles since fitting but no ill effects so far - I was expecting perhaps some tramlining but nope, it's fine. Can't say I can feel any difference at all in fact (perhaps a TINY bit more "planted" but very subjective. Will know for sure next month when I'm back at the ring (but wil also have new tyres by then too so ... Dunno how I'll tell what's down to what).

Let us know how you get on the with the extra stonechips.

Spacers look great, but the lips of your wings will take an extra battering, and you'll likely find the underside of the door handles chipped too......

I took mine off for winter not sure i'm gonna put them back on, as the paint is taking an utter hammering. Minor downside

Did more damage to my paintwork in 100 miles than the previous 10k miles. I have (as above) stone chips on the undersides of the front door handles and one or two (albeit tiny) chips on the doors now. I'm VERY ocd about the paintwork on my car so they've got to go. :(
