Probably scaring myself over theft but

I've been reading articles saying that my wheels, seats, car and virginity are all going to get stolen by some car thief when I get my car next week. Is it really that bad in peoples experience? Do I need to buy a sniper rifle??

depends where you live and where you leave your car I guess...
i was unlucky enough to have mine stolen last year but it was recovered within 24 hours with next to no damage.
Needless to say, the security for it has now been improved!!!

I live on a busy street and the car is parked outside my house which in some ways I guess is better than a private drive where the thieves only have to worry about the owners and not passers by.

The more difficult it is to get your car from where you park it may reduce the possibilty of it being stolen, although it obviously takes you longer to get it out too.
I try to leave my car where it isn't on view to passing traffic, but it obviously depends on your situation for parking and your house / drive layout. Other family cars blocking it in can help too.
You could argue leaving the car on the road near to your house doesn't then advertise where the the keys are kept, but it is obviously safer from other aspects on a drive / garage.
I try to be mindful of following vehicles especially within a mile or so of home; it's not unknown for potential targets to be followed home to see where they live for a likely attempt later. If I am wary of any following car, not just immediately behind, I will either pass home, detour or turn off before to see where they go. Invariably, your worries are unfounded, and you can become paranoid if you're not careful, but I'd rather take a couple or so minutes out of my day, just to increase the pleasure of seeing the car still there in the morning.
Security measures at your home, secure gates and a dog have benefits as well, but if they get round all these things, they are obviously determined, and if they want the keys, the family come first, so they can have them.
All scaremongering possibly, but if you lie awake all night worrying, then it will take the enjoyment away from owning a superb car.

Yeah there's no option to hide it where I live but, the car is overlooked by numerous houses and my neighbor works odd hours so, there's someone awake most of the night.

Good tips on the drive home but, I can't help thinking that I will not enjoy the car as much as I should if I'm checking my mirrors all the time for crooks. The dog I guess should deter people and failing that the Mrs has a terrible bite!

Deliver drivers are a supply of vehicle locations. They will be approached by car thieves for info as they are always spotting nice cars in driveways and garages. We have loads delivers but I also have cameras, garage with alarm and double electric gates to get through.

Mine was stolen, they came into the bedroom while i was sleeping. Usually its blocked in by my partners car. On the night it happened she happened to be out babysitting overnight. The neighbours cctv caught the thieves car, silver astra. I then remembered seeing this car pass my house 4-5 times one sunday morning while i was washing 2 weeks earlier. Thought it was odd but dismissed it as chavs mucking about

Nope, i tracked the car down several times. Each time i told the police they were too slow or did nothing. I gave them a location on the 25th of July, then sent a DI on the 14th October. Its like beating your head on a wall dealing with the police. Even gave them names of people involved! Which they said were probably correct! And still nothing.

Parking it on any road overnight , quiet or busy you are asking to be noticed . Thieves don't mind where or when it taken . You need it garaged and out of sight . All mind are garaged and as I drive up I open the door drive in and it's out of sight within 30 seconds and I do drive round the block if some one follows me up the village
