My rs4 b8 in 1 year old at start of April and only done 6000 miles to date. Got phone call from Audi Edinburgh today about booking in for service. When I check the service interval in the car it's still showing 6000 miles or 165 days for oil change or 8000 miles for service.

Do I go by the dealers recommendation or stick to the service interval showing in the car ?

Its good practice to get it seen annually anyway in my mind. But as long as you stick to the indicator itll probably be fine. I defo would not rely on mileage, means nothing. stuff degrades

I guess it's everybody's own business how they take care of their cars, but some common sense applies, at least to my car maintenance.

Audi RS engines have a particular oil recommendation, not only viscosity class. This is important if you consider that the piston speed in the engine exceeds that of an F1 car engine a couple of generations ago. That is if you use the engine the way it was built to be used, on the other hand if you never exceed 5000 rpm a good question - why would you pay a significant amount of money for a high performance car that has a redline at 8400...

Also, unless the warranty conditions are different in the UK from those in Australia, the car should be serviced every 15000 km (10k miles) or a year, whichever comes first. With regards to my blurb above, I don't believe the oil remains in top condition for 15000 km in an engine like the RS's, therefore mine gets a change every 7500 km. And in the UK there is even better reason to think twice when the oil needs to be changed - you guys need to deal with sub zero temperatures at least occasionally, that puts even more pressure on the oil.

Just thought I would share my pennies worth of thoughts in case it helps anyone else to keep their brilliant mechanical wonder in better condition. Saving on minor costs like oil and service is just plain silly if you pay a lot of money for the car...
