Tony whilst I'll agree there's an exception to every rule, it's a good rule of thumb that if something looks well made it probably is... I don't think you can dispute that (in general).
Believe only the man who has nothing to gain from what he says.

No i dont dispute that. we all want a product that looks good and in this case sounds good.i had my new custom exhaust made its not polished but that does not bother me its all about the after sales service now for me, that bloody Armytrix stood me at £5k the thing didnt fit right and other issues and Armytrix tried blaming me and tried passing the blame on to supersprint saying there manifolds and cats was not compatible.i think when buying an exhaust it is best to listen to what other people have to say about there experience buying an exhaust

or a well known and respected brand with big R&D budget.RIV wrote:All the more reason to go to a fabricator where you can see what they are doing
Milltek/Mulgari got me a loan unit so I had it in time for an event and then swapped it for a brand new one when in stock. I took it back a couple times to get the fit right and it's been fine since.
I get the "if it looks good, the workmanship is good" but also see why the likes of Milltek can sell and exhaust at £1800 vs. fabricator/Capristo/Akrapovic. I heard Smudgers 'pristo and if I'd paid £3k I'd have been pissed off, good looks or not.
Re: Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)
I get the Capristo / Akra comparison as they are well overpriced in my opinion, but fabricators normally come in cheaper than an equivalent Milltek (usually due to a non-existant R&D budget; build it on the car and pot luck what you get). Pretty sure a JC Weldfab, like for like, is cheaper than the 'budget' option of Milltek fitted, but with better looks (no disputing this one), better quality (JC weldfab doesn't start rusting in a few months, I know, I had 2 different sets of Milltek centre pipes on my B7 in a space of a year (one after the other) and both looked rusty but the Tubi back box I had the whole time was in a better condition) and better sound (OK, may be an objective one but I've yet to know anybody that has heard a B7 JCWF and Milltek and preferred the Milltek).carsarecool wrote:or a well known and respected brand with big R&D budget.RIV wrote:All the more reason to go to a fabricator where you can see what they are doing

£1800 for a milltek is for a valved cat back system and normally fitting is extra. The prices you have probably seen for the JCWF are for a full system inc fitting. And I cannot believe Milltek will give better customer service than a relatively small company like JCWF.
However, I do not work for them, I've never had one of their exhausts and unlikely to have one in the future, but having seen and heard them in the flesh and the rest of the competition, I have no reservations in recommending them to other prospective buyers.
Re: Exhausts!! It's time!! Which One :-)
JCWF or Milltek - no contention. I suggest anyone visits JCWF Facebook page for quality - the welds they produce, ergo the rest of the manufacture of their system is a void apart from Milltek.
R&D? What? They should devote some R&D budget at Miltek to purchasing decent stainless and not stuff that erodes in a year.
It's simply the best system out there. Find one negative comment on cost, fabrication, noise relating to the JCWF system.
Any loan system that can go on a car for a show, only to be replaced after said show for the ''real one' smacks of 'building and supplying disposable systems'...
Let's be clear too - R&D comes in many guises - endless amounts of bent tube is one thing along with testing, but knowing a little more than just being a 'fabricator' helps - surely some motor racing pedigree to lean on would shore up a thought process on building a system, wouldn't it?
Michael made my system at JCWF - he's a co-director at JCWF and here's his website...

So any idea how much JCFW might cost for B8 having been to see them?

Back off a weekend break - great discussion folks
I like you am very interested in how the JC thing turns out; I've started a new thread to give those guys an idea of the addressable market size; that'd be a way of them getting a picture on the investment return - i.e. who's got one etc:

Neilparf; I'd love to come and hunt out your B7 for a listen.....

I would imagine somewhere around £2.5k fully supplied and fitted. They'll be able to confirm the price once mine is finished.RS_Four wrote:So any idea how much JCFW might cost for B8 having been to see them?

Full system sorry should have said.
I've asked for the holy grail - almost standard in normal mode, nascar/ thrown off UK circuits in sports mode. They believe they can do it so ... It's a goer!

£2.5k for supply and fit for a full system of that quality / workmanship / beauty is a great price!! Even more so when you consider it is essentailly 2 separate exhausts.

Please don't hold me/them to that lol. That's just a number that came out in conversation today about a ballpark retail price. Id hate for someone to say in 2 months time "ross said £2.5k!" :p
