Re: Questions Sport Pack
lots of stuff to agree with here.
Based on what I'd heard I opted to NOT have Dynamic Steering.
You do this by selecting the sports pack options individually. ie Sports suspension + sports exhaust.
It does mean that you pay a bit extra but then you deal through that.
I also wanted to keep the standard 19" wheels because:
I really like the look of them - yes I know I'm one of the minority
AND as side benefits I get:
marginally better ride (technically - but not proven/experienced back to back)
slightly better kerb rash liability
slightly cheaper tyres at time replace ( wouldn't have been a deal breaker but hey its nice to dwell on a positive)
lighter wheels (a couple of kgs from memory per corner) due to be forged inlieu of cast or whatever - this mentally offset my inner (but possibly impractical) need to get ceramic brakes which would have had weight reduction as a benefit - I stuck with standard brakes and saved enough money to keep the missus happy!
and now that I have "non dynamic" steering I am happy. It still has selectable tailoring options via set up, for weighting etc etc, but that is standard - or so I understand as I quizzed the dealer after delivery saying I optioned without dynamic steer and yet it still has "selectability" but just not dynamic. I struggled to find any info in tests, reviews, owners handbook etc etc so would say there is a really simple level of lack of info from Audi on this.
I did have a problem at delivery with the steering weighting feeling way too heavy. like I was driving a gokart with low tyre pressures. It was uncomfortable and muscle ache inducing even in light weight "comfort". I don't know why but when, at 1,000kms, the dealer adjusted the very minor out of alignment of the steering wheel it also totally changed the steering weighting from "pig" to "sweet". Go figure.
I use my RS4 as my daily driver and have clocked up 24,000 kms in 26 weeks with lots being for work driving both city and country roads. I use Comfort setting 95% of the time and wish there was an inbetween suspension setting midway from Comfort to Sport for when I want more sporty without the rattle your teeth out and give you a headache everywhere but smooth mountain roads (not many of them in Australia) and racetracks .... I understand this is a common wish. On one drive out in the country on some pretty lumpy back roads, where there was no one around (good for "testing"), and in the wet, I put the suspension on Dynamic/Sport and not long after needed to set back to comfort as the car developed a "lack of civility" caused by the combination of stiff suspension, wet roads and bumps and lumps.
best bet if you can do as hoped, which is be able to drive both types of steering and see for yourself. Just see if you can do some miles and a mix of windy bits and fast sweepers rather than just a poodle round the block. Good luck and do let me know if the Non dynamic steering actually has NO adjustability from the individual tailoring screen

Re: Questions Sport Pack
Thanks, that's a sweet review for an uncommon option.
Re: Questions Sport Pack
OK so drove the Dynamic Steering Equipped car today... I actually thought it was OK, they car was direct and accurate weighting seemed ok. Id say the 335 was a tad better but not much. Comfort on the suspension was a bit floaty and bouncy dynamic was just perfect. Loved the drive and the car was so secure and exploitable.
Heres the dilemma, I drove a lotus Exige S v6 an hour after... its redefined steering feel and handling as this is a low milage weekend toy I was torn... The finance deal that audi are doing tho mean tis 30% cheaper per month than the Exige... but a low mileage late production run Exige S2 on a 10 plate would cost me the same over 4 years as the RS4, I'd own it at the end and it would hang on to probably 70% of its value possibly more....
Back to the drawing board.

Re: Questions Sport Pack
Completely agree with you in the S2 Exige. I contemplated a type 72 before finally deciding on a rs4 as running 2 cars wasn't really an option.
It's a hard one especially when you dial in depreciation of the rs4 against the exige.
But hey, it's a nice position to be in
I'm sure you'll be happy with which you choose

Re: Questions Sport Pack
2 great choices
Solution: buy em both !
Simple really ...
Oh well, but in the real world
So, any thoughts on desires, setting aside the costs? Being a weekend toy it is more about heart then head. Both satisfy the heart though one stands out for the head. And possibly the other excels for the heart. You certainly won't be putting 3 mates and a boot load of luggage and heading off for a holiday in the Exige. But do you want the RS4 for that option?
The week after I win the lottery (substantial amount needed) I would also have the Exige in the garage, so I share the desire and longing. Probably most do
.
What's your colour preference for the Exige?

Re: Questions Sport Pack
Was looking at a type 72 miatang, popped in in the morning to have a look, went to drive the RS4 had lunch and went back in the afternoon to look in more detail and talk figures as they had a customer picking up an Evora in the morning. In that 2 or 3 hours someone called and bought the 72... soon we started looking at the LF1 which is a phenomenal piece of machinery. Black paint with a gold fleck through it red accents and splitter lovely. Drove the standard Exige demonstrator and was simply blown away
Im sitting here trying to justifying it by thinking the extra 30% is a savings account as the future value of the Exige on the PCP is 22k after 4 (RS4 is 25k) I suspect it will be nearer 40k in reality so in 4 years i should have built up 15-20k equity... and I just offset some savings... hahaha.
What we do for these machines.... I think its snookered the RS4 to be honest, as another poster said, Head says RS4, heart Says Exige

The type 72 would have held its value for you come to resale time. The LF1 is awesome car. How much was it?
For me if it was just weekends I think I would take the Exige. I'll probably get slated for making that comment on here but for pure driving it does have an edge over the rs4. Thats until it rains.
Re: Questions Sport Pack
The LF1 was 64k on the Sticker and the GMFV ONLY 22k after 4 years and 20k miles. Absolutely no movement on price. Had the GMFV been even remotely realistic I.E maybe 30k would make the deal more pallatable on the monthlies. Still thinking hard about it tho as refinancing it after 4 years for 22k would be a bargain. Or flogging it with a chunk of equity!!!

Had anymore thoughts?
Re: Questions Sport Pack
In the process of pulling the trigger on an s2 Exige sorry rs4ers
Re: Questions Sport Pack
Apples and pears. You can't take a family and dog in an Exige.rawsco wrote:In the process of pulling the trigger on an s2 Exige sorry rs4ers
You're also quoting an RS4 over a 4yr term which is not an ideal length given the B9's announcement in 18-24mths, this will be built into the GFV as well as other factors. Re-do the figures over 2yrs and I would wager it tells a different story. I took mine over 2yrs specifically for that reason, to come out of the car with equity before the B9 arrives.

Very different proposition to an RS4 though if that was what's got the chop for the lotus
