Engine oil level physical check

Post by nwk00 » Mon Feb 02, 2015 4:44 pm

How do we check the engine oil level physically? I know we can use the MMI to check but let's just say I would like to do it the old fashion way.

Assuming the access is easy, does it have a dipstick? If not can we use this http://www.ecstuning.com/News/Audi_B8_S ... l_Dipstick or should we use something else?

thanks

It's all torque talk.

Ya I have seen that, was hoping for someone who has done it as well to post another description, since I am mechanically challenged when it comes to cars.

eightfoot wrote:looking in the engine bay under the right hand air filter is a tube with a black bung in it,go to local dealer and buy dipstick for b7 rs4,its a bit of a faff to check as you need to remove the plastic panel (4x quick release clips) ontop of the grill and remove the air scoop for the right air box (2x torks screws) but once you have done it several times it only takes a minute or two to check
I don't know how it would be possible to write it out more clearly than that??

I guess I was looking for a simpler sounding answer(or alternative) and the wordy instruction gave me a melt down. :biggrin3:

I couldn't stand it so I made an early trip to the service centre to pick up some other stuff for my car and took the opportunity to speak with a mechanic. He pointed me to the tube that they insert the dipstick into. It's basically under the right air intake like eightfoot has described.

It's the metal tube with a sticker on it.

The fact it was buried deep inside among everything else made the problem even bigger inside my head and I had to pop it.

Taking eightfoot's instructions.......

1) First you remove the plastic panel with 4 clips on it.

2) This exposes the intake trays. Look to the right side one. Mine looks different but the concept is the same. Remove the two torx screws holding the intake tray down.

3) Remove the intake tray(I remember the stock version has a clip or button that attachs the intake tray to the intake chamber) and this exposes the access for your dipstick. Viola!

It's easier when you have done it once. Hope the visualisation helped. Now you just have to buy the right dipstick.
