Another Newbie Question

Post by LeapingDeere » Fri Jan 02, 2015 9:00 pm

Hello all,

I know is a vulgar question but.....

I've heard rumors from various acquaintances but from no one I trust.

Ive been told that there isn't actually a speed limter. Has anyone got the speed increase option?

Has anyone tried to get a top speed out of there car?

Thanks again (again!) chaps

Hi,

Best figure that I have recorded was 28.9mpg when driving with the mother-in-law on the motorway at no greater than 65mph.

At between 70 - 80mph, I usually achieve around 26mpg.

Today, around town in busy traffic, it dropped to about 18mpg.

On the flip side, since taking delivery of the RS4 last March, super unleaded has reduced in price from a peak of 144p to currently 115p :D

I just drove mine 80 miles home from the dealers and from a full tank I'm now just above half.
It's funny, the fuel gauge is absolutely tiny, perhaps they were limited for space getting the 200mph on the speedo:-)

I've done nearly 7k in mine now
The average showing on the computer is around 21-22mpg
Like above, at a steady 70-80 cruise, you should see mid to late 20's
This should see you get 300miles to a tank

Near 300? Giddy heights I never achieved. The S4 isn't much better I've had that down to 200 on a tank. Love a loaner.

My best is 270 miles from tank which was 95% motorway. Worst is 140-ish, local hooligan driving and no motorway.

I filled up for under £70 the other day for the first time....58 litres at £1.19.

OP - too late to be thinking economy if you've signed the order :) You will not regret it.

EDIT: I got 28.8mpg today on a 34 mile trip from Reading to West London.

26mpg is about right at 80 on an empty & level road. Resisting the temptation to boot it is the tricky part.

Just back from Kirkwall (Orkney) to Aberdeen +/-250 miles today. Averaged 25mpg with plenty overtaking in wintry conditions (running 19" dunlop winter sport 3D tyres). I've clocked up over 1500 miles in the last month and according to the fuellog app I use to track all my fill ups I've been averaging 23.1mpg. The DIS shows 24.3mpg so as usual it runs optimistically higher. I reckon 300 miles to a tank is possible but I'd probably not chance it. To compare the RS4 with two recent other cars I had a 2008 STI hatch was averaging 25.3mpg (ringland failure was imminent so guessing higher mpg was possible). 911 (997) C2 PDK averaged 26.8mpg and 400 miles to a tank was possible. With quattro and a highly tuned 4.2L v8 I'm happy with the B8 RS4 fuel economy but pity it didn't have a bigger tank as planning trips around petrol stations is a little more of a pain in the ar$e now...

Averaging 230 miles on a tank around town and pushing
300 pm a run.
Ring and Spa was about 90-120 miles on a tank and top speed tins on Autobahn was showing 5.7mpg on readout. .... Not that I looked down much!

Mine arrived in June and I was very strict on the 1st 1,000 miles and it's burning very little oil either.

I managed an ave of 32mpg on a run from Norfolk to Berkshire last week. Quiet motorway driving & after a week of 'enjoying christmas' I just wanted to pootle home. I had the cruise on at around 70mph for about 75% of the journey. I should have taken a photo.
It's all torque talk.

Thanks guys.

If I can get 300 miles on a economy run, which seems possible then I'll take that.

Granted it won't be too often!
