275 wide tyres

Post by Iain_S4 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:58 am

How many people are running 275 wide tyres? I've done a search and there seems to be a few but looking to see what the latest picture is. The difference in diameter is 6mm or 0.9% which is well under the 2.5% that seems to be a commonly quoted maximum.

Currently looking for winter tyres and really want to go with the Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme S which are only available in 275/30. Otherwise its Continental ContiWinterContact TS 830

I always ran 275 wide summer tyres on my B7 RS4 but now everyone seems to be so touchy about insurance complications of non-standard size tyres.

I've just bought a set of Dunlop Winter Sports in 275 30 20, cannot see this being an issue at all. For example a lot of Porsche dealers all have a different opinion of what the right width tyre is for a particular rim.. I'm no expert but have run wider tyres in the past, often for the same reason ie. forced upon me due to the limited choice in particular sizes.

I have ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 in 265/30/20. Expensive, but I had a similar set a few years ago on a different car and they were excellent.

Not sure that's right!
265/35/20 = 92.75mm sidewall
275/30/20 = 82.50mm sidewall

Meaning that the 275 sits 10.25mm higher so that makes the diameter 10.25 x 2 = 20.50mm greater on the 275 not 6mm.

I think my figures are right.

265/30 R20

Both tyres are 30 aspect ratio.

Ah apologies, assumed you were comparing the B8 RS4 OEM Rubber with 275's as the OEM B8 size is 265/35/20 isn't it?

Sorry, Ill get me coat :bash:
On the plus side I've just bought some Vredestein Wintrac extreme s's for my rs5 in 275/30/20 and paid £768 including Vat and delivery for 4. Have a look on openeo.co.uk. I couldn't find anyone else cheaper! Assuming they arrive of course!

If they are not showing they don't have them in stock but keep looking and they seem to restock quite quickly.

Good deal!

I just paid £864 :( . I've been checking oponeo but availability and price change quickly. Although the Vredesteins were there previously they now have only Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D in that size.

Ok, Continentals it is in 265/30 R20 size . . . should have pulled my finger out earlier.

Shortly after placing the order I got a call to say there were no Vredesteins available in UK stock but there were some in Germany if I paid an additional £40. Cancelled order and placed order with Camskill which said they had stock. However, it turns out only 2 were in stock so another cancelled order and Continentals ordered from Oponeo.
