Astonished, Ozzi

A lot of chit chat on here. Not a lot of pics... :sleeping_2: Nah just kidding but get 'em up here when you can.

As to the speed dial etc, Astonished I'm guessing this is your first B8? Well, it didn't take long to find the Achilles heel of the whole line: the MMI. It's years behind the competition and the no speed dial issue is a serious pita. Yes, you can use voice dial, but it is hit and miss and if you have multiple numbers for a given contact you've got another annoying
layer of voice prompt to battle through. Eg "Call Jessica". "Did you mean, "Jessica xxx"? "Yes", "Please enter the number"(as in 1) for home, 2) for mobile, 3) for US mobile...). A pita and slow.

They need then 8 physical buttons you get in the BMW. Or the 6 buttons on the touchpad from the A6. Then there's that crummy little screen...

The rest of the car is sufficiently great that I'm going around again though!

Congrats.

Thanks Jjd

I'm hearing loud and clear

Yes, my first B8

My brother had an S4 although can't recall whether B6 or B7 - it was about 5 up years ago and about 1 or w years old when he bought it. He sourced an upgrade to the sat nav/audio which was more similar to my 2008 VW R36 at the time. He sold it, went overseas and bought a Merc hairdressers car SL63 .... Nice but just a smidge sad. Anyway I digress.

My R36 has got the Fiscon add on phone package with 6 speed dials right up there on the screen soon as you opt for phone ...

Oh well.

But ... A thought:

I allocate the first 6 entries in my iPhone contact list to be effective speed dials such that they show up immediately an no scrolling down. So it might be something like:

01 Home
02 Missus

Or if it works alpha

AAA Home
AAB Missus

Will play around and see how I go.

Of course it will have Wobblies when someone from home rings and it thinks it either ME or Home or 01 Home ...

Play time ...

And yeh ... Awkward but small bikkies once forward motion takes hold :biggrin3:

Quick observation

I have said:

"Call Jessica mobile"

And it just has the one step rather than two to answer yes to.

Halves the process and anguish. :boots:

Very nice too. Your windows seem to have a much darker tint (for obvious reasons) than we are permitted in the "old country".

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful ....

I did particularly notice the Audi wine cooler thingy in the boot. That is way spesh. :notworthy:

My "not so OCD missus" commented: " oh, he's done what you would do, take pictures of every angle, piece of equipment and minor detail ... And for the purpose of, what? Oh yes, so that if you ever have a problem, stolen, accident blah blah blah you have a photo of that detail as evidence ..." :biggrin2:

My turn to roll eyes back ... And lament not having Facebook ... But the missus does ... She's found you ... Latent stalker !! :biggrin3:

Oh yeh, so is the wine cooler esky thingy from the "Audi Collection"? Off to look right now, plus it's sun shining today so out with camera, chamois, microfibre cloth, alcohol wipe (to install my etag holder), owners manual etc etc etc. looking for OCD mate to assist :beerchug:

Just FYI, if the size difference between your front plate & the mount irritate you, there is a smaller unit available through the dealers. I've seen it on the spares system.

Nice car though.
It's all torque talk.

Got one fitted on mine - but not OEM - it's a LAKIN. Nice pice of work and it's exact same size as number plate. Beautiful.

The guy is very helpful and lives in Tasmania. Does all state number plates. The original one was given back to me by the dealer for if/when I decide to sell. They knew me as being "particular" and wanting to have that, including removing their advertising sticker off the back windscreen just before I drove away. They also knew that I don't like any dealer advertising on my cars - even though they were very good and happy to give them good ref etc etc Alto Audi Artarmon.

Oh yeh, I had a mate once. I think he was OCD. Good job I'm not!

Yeh yeh, photos will follow :bigblink:

Smudge - thanks for the heads up re the number plate holder thingy - I will look into that.

Astonished : The wine cooler thing is only in the EU/UK Catalogue - couldn't see it in the Aus one. I got it off e-bay. There are a few on offer around 450/500 dollars but I got mine for half of that - shipping is horrendous - so have a good gander (maybe try ebay.de, but not all de guys ship to Aus
While very expensive I liked the look of the Audi one. I drove up to Coffs last Xmas and only had an Eski, the Haggis etc only just got there a bit defrosted but just OK - so wanted a refrigerated one. There loads of much cheaper options of course, but the look kinda crappy. Also being soft material can put in the bck seat with cool drinks for on the go , as it were. A genius solution except for the $$$. Oh and it supposed to keep 20deg less than ambient where many of the others are only 15 deg less.

Lots of pics of detail as I figured some people on here may like to see - or show their wives. The better half may even enjoy a picnic in summer with a glass of chilled vino too.

e-tag - must find that perfect spot !!!

Enjoy - I will be off out into the country this afternoon to give the beast a bit of welly

Cheers for now

I've also got the Lakin number plate holders for my personal plates.

Have removed the large front plate mount and mounted the smaller plate in its place.

Looks a lot neater.

May, just undo 2 torx screws and the std number plate holder undoes and I then lined up the holes in the front grill and drilled the Lakin plate ( powder coated aluminium) and mounted it directly in place of the larger plate holder.

Maybe a photo may be best?

Just taken photos - dealer did mine easy as - will get round to downloading photos etc - don't think anything has to come off, sounded like a straight screw off/screw on job. Can scan instructions too ....

Just the weathers really good at moment so more suited to driving, inspecting etc etc :biggrin3:

Yeh - think its easy as - and Lakin makes the backing plates to suit pretty much every standard Aussie plate size - and especially the up market ones that we'd naturally go for !! :beerchug:

So here's some photos of the plate:

And I guess it would be appropriate to include some photos of the car behind the plate ....
