Buckets or SS

Post by hunter » Sun May 04, 2014 4:45 pm

Well guys after cancelling my early order for a misano RS4 due to a impending new house , it's now time to get my updated order in but it won't be misano this time.

For the last week it's been a toss up between a mega spec RS4 or a RS6 with only a few options ticked, but after going out to Aberdeen audi yesterday and looking again at both, the RS6 just doesn't really do anything for me especially seeing the two side by side , some people will no doubt reckon I am mental but the sheer grunt alone of the RS6 just isn't enough to swing it.

So most options are ticked bar the ceramics but the one I am having problems with is the seats, buckets or the awesome Supersport seats that I had in my old B8 S4, going to ask Aberdeen if they have one with buckets to let me try them out and check that our isofix base and seat can still be fitted behind the passengers seat, what's you opinion guys?

Here is the spec

Individual paint
Matt styling pack
Sports pack with V spokes
Red calipers
Pano roof
Buckets
B&O
Audi high connect
Heated front seats
Privacy glass
Manual side blinds
Hill hold assist
Advanced key
Power mirrors

Would love red seat belts but it's not a option sadly

Would love buckets but just not practical for us as a family car and with the missus driving it

I wouldn't even consider an RS without buckets. My B7 with buckets had no trouble with isofix and normal baby seats so can't imagine there is any less room in a B8.

Yeah the wife will be using the car when I am offshore so she needs to be able to get into them too, but after reading the ceramics debate I could drop either
Pano roof/red calipers/exclusive paint
Or
Red calipers/ buckets / exclusive paint

Buckets the make a big difference when pressing on the B roads the demo has SS and i was sliding around a bit but with the buckets you feel more connected to the car

I agree but how often do you "press" the b roads? I had same dilemma and in reality 90% of the time I'll be driving fairly "normally". I had buckets in my B7 (the alternative back than was very, very lame Recaros) but decided against them in my B8. The SS are fine for the 90% and even when going for an enthusiastic drive they are more than adequate.

I'd have buckets over ceramics and/or pano roof though.

Enjoy the spec-dilemma.......it could be worse :) (make sure it's Nogaro)

It's going to be a family bus so will never be fully on it on B roads but never had any issues with my SS seats

If i was going on a long drive to the south of France i'd have SS all day long as they are way more comfy than the Recaro's.

However I do that once a year and the Recaro's remind you everyday your getting into something special and not just a TDI.

Yes they are firmer and more uncomfortable but for me they make the car feel more special and certainly hold you more securely when pressing on, i found i slid about a bit in the SS.

The baby seat fits easily behind them too as I've checked :)

We have a 2012 a4 black edition which has the sport seats...super sports are far better from what I remember...For us as I am 5'10 and missus is 5'1 the memory side of the super sports makes changing easier and also easier for her to get out. ..my 997 gt2 had buckets and she struggled to climb out as she so ickle!

Think I am leaning towards keeping the recaros but ditching individual paint and pano roof so as to get ceramics.

Henry how did you find going from gtr to RS4 ?

Not got the rs4 yet...It arrived in UK on Thursday...had GTR'S since 2009 and missing the last one massively...went out in a 2014 the other day and massive step forward in refinement. ..my GTR was a Litchfield tuned stage 4.25 with 650 bhp and was a monster...wanted something more refined for the family and RS4 was leading contender

Yeah I was briefly tempted to get a 2009 premium edition gtr and a normal estate for the wife after being into the original skyline gtr,s many moons ago ( had a genuine R32GTR Vspec 2 running 470bhp at the wheels over eight years ago as sorely miss it) but like yourself I was out in a late 2013 model and the interior really disappointed me but by god it went round corners like it was on rails

They are addictive...will own another probably one of next year's run outs

By getting rs4 I am intending to get a cheap to buy and run track slag like a e36 or 46 m3

I had a b7 with buckets and wouldn't have ordered my b8 if I had to have them again.

I had buckets in my b7 and also in my first b8 RS4
I loved then and they fitted me well. I did a couple of long drives across Europe in my b8 abs never felt a twinge in my back once. For me, an RS4 needed buckets and that was that.
However, my elderly mother (who I ferry around a couple of days a week), my wife and various other less flexible people fell into them and struggled to get out of them again. Also, my seven year olds booster set wouldn't fit in them and even after 17k miles, in the case of my b8, the bolsters we're starting to show signs of wear
Then, the rs5 I have currently (temporarily, I might add) arrived without buckets and I've grown to really like the SS seats
They're not as cool or as super 'Graeme shaped' comfortable as the buckets, but I've grown to like them
Coupled with the above negatives for the buckets with family fit, then I've specced SS seats in my next b8 and pocketed a few quid in doing so

It's certainly not the same dilemma as with the b7 SS seats as they were pretty crap and the b8 SS seats still look cool and have an RS4 logo on them
