Your right. I think the only time Audi has possibly 'beaten' BMW was with the B7 RS4 and E90 M3. I know thats not the fairest comparison with the age difference but its as close match as I can think.Amar wrote:Yes, the RS 3 has the looks and traction. But why can't Audi just get the drive/handling right? I could feel his frustration, similar to the RS 5 vs M3 review on Top Gear. The M3 just sliced through the track and the RS 5 looked as though it had a wrecking ball attached to it's front bumper which meant it kept going for the grass. I'm not surprised it wasn't any quicker either. It has been the same story from the E39 M5 vs C5 RS 6 days, the E39 was quicker with much less power as at 100ish + MPH, quattro started eating up all the power.

the M135i should be pitted against the NEW S3 (300PS - 5.1 0 - 60)
not a RS 3 based on a 100yr old chassis!
I have watched it a couple of times, it certainly appears to be a deliberate hatchet job, clarkson would be proud of how he is over driving the 3 to exaggerate its handling characteristics (and destroy the tyres), the weight transfer from side to side of the car is pretty extreme, shame he didnt drive it as smouthly as the bimmer. The french lad lapping the ring and beating the M3 GTS shows what the car can do when driven smouthly.dbm wrote:Harris is talking through his posterior at certain points - pushing the Sport button does nothing to the chassis. And there are no nasty plastics that I have noticed.
Plus the RS3 is a much more practical car than the M135i - four doors plus a decent hatch, four people travelling in comfort or five if you're friendly. So it is undoubtedly heavier. And whilst the M135 might be quicker to 140(!) the Audi is faster to both 60 and 100.
And either the noise levels in the M135 on the track were horrendous or his mic was on the fritz. The background noise was terrible compared to the RS3.
I'm happy with my choice
