I agree with him. Pity the BM is soooo ugly!

Wow very damning for the RS3. As a man who says he likes a drivers car you must be keen to have a go Dave?

He is right about hot hatches getting stupidly powerful.

He's probably got a point that the BM is a better drivers and track car however my own view is that Harris is becoming a little bit detached from reality. Bar those that take their cars on track days the differences he suggests between these two cars are not as much in the real world and his beloved M135i needed to get beyond 100mph to start reeling in the RS3 and since when do you do that on the road?

And those that do take the RS3 on track will probably have it mapped and power increase results from the Audi have been better than the BM to date so it will be quicker. And then there are the limited numbers, higher spec albeit the cabin is dated (but I've never been a fan of BM interiors and their slab sided look) and as he has rightly said, all weather ability. Even if you put winters on both the RS3 would be better. It is the more complete package and Audi has as said sold them all IIRC so there is a market.

Continentals - although not as bad as they were in the era of say my S4 - and Dunlops are not the tyre for a car like the RS3! Do Audis still come with Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop and Continental....... and its still completely pot luck what tyres the car comes with?

Still a second quicker on a dry lap....

The RS3 looks better but I have to say the M sounds a lot better.

Yes, the RS 3 has the looks and traction. But why can't Audi just get the drive/handling right? I could feel his frustration, similar to the RS 5 vs M3 review on Top Gear. The M3 just sliced through the track and the RS 5 looked as though it had a wrecking ball attached to it's front bumper which meant it kept going for the grass. I'm not surprised it wasn't any quicker either. It has been the same story from the E39 M5 vs C5 RS 6 days, the E39 was quicker with much less power as at 100ish + MPH, quattro started eating up all the power.

Your right. I think the only time Audi has possibly 'beaten' BMW was with the B7 RS4 and E90 M3. I know thats not the fairest comparison with the age difference but its as close match as I can think.

what a load of trash

the M135i should be pitted against the NEW S3 (300PS - 5.1 0 - 60)

not a RS 3 based on a 100yr old chassis!

Harris is talking through his posterior at certain points - pushing the Sport button does nothing to the chassis. And there are no nasty plastics that I have noticed.

Plus the RS3 is a much more practical car than the M135i - four doors plus a decent hatch, four people travelling in comfort or five if you're friendly. So it is undoubtedly heavier. And whilst the M135 might be quicker to 140(!) the Audi is faster to both 60 and 100.

And either the noise levels in the M135 on the track were horrendous or his mic was on the fritz. The background noise was terrible compared to the RS3.

I'm happy with my choice :)

I have watched it a couple of times, it certainly appears to be a deliberate hatchet job, clarkson would be proud of how he is over driving the 3 to exaggerate its handling characteristics (and destroy the tyres), the weight transfer from side to side of the car is pretty extreme, shame he didnt drive it as smouthly as the bimmer. The french lad lapping the ring and beating the M3 GTS shows what the car can do when driven smouthly.

Shame he decided to take this route as i like monkey a lot :bash:

Still its funny to watch him have a lewis hamilton moment :smile_smoking:

And I have no agenda against the bimmer, I love the 1M coupe, came close to buying one, but i needed DSG and 5 doors, the 135 is bargain of the century although it will be close the 3 in price when the spec is similar and no doubt it will be a more pure driving experience but you will need some decent skill to get the most out of it, which i certainly dont have
