Absolutely not, I wouldn't be settling for that. I'd be surprised if there wasn't irrepairable damage anyway. Probably as cheap to replace the engine than to strip and rebuild.

For warranty purposes they have to strip the engine down to find the fault and record what has happened to the engine for the VAG engine people to scrutinise.
They will replace the engine as the car is so new and with so few miles on it.

Yes, I've been through the painful process.
I found it strange though that they rely upon the dealer for the info. I'd have thought more specialist resource from the manufacturer would be appropriate.

Problem is I love the RS3, genuinely gutted over all the problems I have had.
The Datsun is amazing but the running costs put it out of my league

well we know whats happened
a valve in the inlet manifold (aids air fuel mix?) came undone and entered cylinder 5 trashing the piston and head.
I must admit my dealership has been first class so far, we shall see how this continues
If you get a metallic noise that sounds like a rattling heat shield and or the injectors seam to get louder get the inlet valves checked out ASAP!!!

Cheers Dave for the update.
I have a friend with an old 330d that had a similar issue. Apparently was a known issue on them!
Keep us posted on how you get on.

Hope this is not going to be a known issue on the car. Be very disappointed if it was.
