Fitting the Audi Bluetooth module automatically gives SDS Low - i.e. voice control of phone functions.

SDS High i.e. voice control of SOME (not all) functions of the RNS-E is an RNS-E function and requires re-wiring the phone microphone via the RNS-E AND a version of the RNS-E that includes SDS High - most don't include it.

There is a firmware hack for the pre-2010 RNS-E to add SDS High, but AFAIK there is NOT yet an equivalent firmware hack for the 2010+ RNS-E.

Which is why I fitted an 8P0 035 193 C which has SDS High and when I fitted the BT module 6+ years ago I wired the microphone via the RNS-E and fitts a CANGate (to generate a CAN bus message imitating the "CALL" button on the MFSW to initate SDS even though I don't have an MFSW.

It depends on the version of RNS-E that you have, see http://audiforum.us/threads/audi-a3-8p- ... bers.6850/

According to PetrolDave on the RS4 forum the 2010+ RNS-E was available in two forms - one with SDS and one without. If it's any help to you the part numbers of the 2010 and 2011 Audi A3 RNS-E units with SDS are: 8P0 035 193 C (2010) and 8P0 035 193 H (2011). I would imagine that if you have the one with SDS then you just need to to do the coding (although that's just a guess on my part). If you have the non-SDS RNS-E I'm afraid I have no idea if SDS can be retro-fitted. Do you know which version of the RNS-E you have?

If you're thinking of having the work done by HazzDayz then I would suggest having a chat with them. I found them very knowledgeable and helpful when I was looking into having mine done and they should be able to tell you everything you need to know.

Hello mate - we are just talking about swapping the RS4 Flat Bottom Steering Wheel with one out of an TT-RS [without paddles] - this gives the benefit of multi function controls on the steering wheel [such as phone answering, audio volume control and speech control ETC] - This forum is amazing for useful hard to find info about car modding and you will usually find someone who's got very usefull info on how to approach a mod [such as mobbers has in this case] - Hope this makes things a bit clearer? :)

Cheers - Kev

Hi Dave, mine shows a HW REV of H05. I couldn't find the part number anywhere whilst the RNSE is running. I guess I'll need to find out from the VAGCOM or physically pull the unit out to check the label - that right?

The HW revision is no indication of whether the firmware includes SDS, it's the suffix of the part number that you need - which you can see with VCDS (BTW Ross-Tech haven't used the VAGCOM name for years...).
