Spare Wheel Info
Spare Wheel Info
Some info regarding temporary spare wheels for those that might be interested. As I plan on taking the car to central Europe this year, the thought of traveling that distance with only a can of sealant did not inspire confidence, particularly as these sealant repairs are no use for anything larger than a small nail. According to Etka, there is a temporary spare wheel listed, part no. 1K0 601 027 B 036, however on the official Audi version of Etka it is greyed out meaning that Audi do not guarantee that it is suitable. Fortunately the temporary spare wheel that came with 2011 S3's is the same part number so in the interests of science I thought I would see if it fits? It will fit on the rear, however perhaps not unsurprisingly, given the size of the discs and calipers it will not fit on the fronts!
I will still take it on holiday with me, but any problems with the front will mean temporarily swapping the existing rear to the front and using the space saver on the back, which is perhaps the sensible way to do it anyway as it gets the skinny front tyre off the steering.
regards

Well it will fit the back!, Its my wifes S3 that I "borrowed" the wheel out of to check, but for some reason she seems to want it back, not that she would know how to change the wheel anyway!Dave_Hedgehog wrote:so the spare wheel in the back of the S3 on my drive will fit in my RS3 when it comes

Probably never even notice!
Re: Spare Wheel Info
Nice find.
All A3s from 2011MY (IIRC) onwards come with "Tyre Mobility" as opposed to the spare wheel, and there's no factory option to choose the space saver.
It should fit OK.
It's not good value to buy the space saver new, quite expensive in fact, so perhaps try to find a breakers yard with an unused item?

Audi were looking for £75 (inc VAT) for the S3/RS3 space saver. that of course does not include the tyre!drybeer wrote:Nice find.

And that's the part where it becomes quite dear for what you get.
I'm only suggesting that perhaps you can find a completely unused example somewhere.
You'll also need the boot equipment to screw it down to?

How much does it cost to get the glue removed from a rim or a tow if the tyre is too badly damaged to glue
