Stolen RS5 fastest getaway car recorded
Re: Stolen RS5 fastest getaway car recorded
"Ben Westwood used a stolen £85,000 Audi that was one of only two in the country to keep out of the reach of the law during the money-spinning crime spree...... The luxury saloon matched a vehicle stolen in a car key burglary in Stourport on August 3, 2011. The missing Audi had an Lamborghini engine, special panoramic glass roof and racing car brakes." Ahem...

"Special panoramic glass roof" how is this important?

As Bam says - "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"..........trouble is the vast majority of punters just read it with no inward digesting, then it becomes "fact" because they've read it in the newspapers......

The Daily Mail jumps on the band wagon.... "The court heard the car had a Lamborghini engine, a specially designed panoramic glass roof, racing car brakes and a top speed of 200mph."

Re: Stolen RS5 fastest getaway car recorded
What are they trying to say? That the roof was modified to spot helicopters making it easier to escape? I shouldn't care about this but it's boiling my blood. Think about all of the things you read in the papers, things that you know little about, you trust the media to not only get it right but to not cloud a story with needless 'facts'. There'd be a reason the prosecution has focused on the panoramic roof but the media use it to imply other motives or worse still, make up word counts. Next we'll be hearing that panoramic roofed cars are the choice of get away drivers just because of this single case.PhilT wrote:The Daily Mail jumps on the band wagon.... The fact it says "the court heard", means someone said this under oath; that's what gets me!!

Maybe the witness was a used car salesman;
"Yes your honour it has one of those "stunning" Lamborghini engines and a "breathtaking" panoramic roof and is in the "best colour", you wont find another at that price"

Re: Stolen RS5 fastest getaway car recorded
On the Radio 4 news at 6pm it was described as a "supercharged Audi RS5" - now as we all know this doesn't exist from the factory
So was it an S5?
Regardless does either do 180? I though the RS5 had a 155 limiter which could be upgraded to 174?
On the 10pm news the same reporter described it as "souped up" - I mean what kind of language is that for the Beeb, that's more tabloid newspaper sh1te!
What really annoyed me was Radio 4 in the headlines made it sound like the driver went to jail for solely doing 180mph, when you heard the story you realised it was the cigarette raids that justified the jail sentence.
There is some better info here with a pic of car, where it was stolen from and apparently it was modified;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19347144
ITN state "The car, worth £85,000 and one of only two of that particular type in the country, turned out to be Westwood's undoing"
There is some good in car footage here of when the police cars first spot the car and give chase but long as they soon lose it - the roads are wet and they are in a 3 series, no contest (are you listening Evo magazine!)

Re: Stolen RS5 fastest getaway car recorded
A supercharged RS5 might do 180mph. As might an RS5 with an RS6 'lambo' engine. If it was really doing 180mph then it was clearly de-restircted as I imagine most remapped cars have. Is it possible that Audi sold a couple RS6 engined RS5s? Or have 2 people done engine transplants hence the comment there were only 2 of them in the country.
Either way if you read on it says that they ESTIMATED he was doing 180mph from the helicopter, which means he may have been doing 160mph. How accurate is a guy guessing from the sky without any actual recording equipment? Looks like everyone has jumped on the headline of 180mph and it has become gospel.
I'd like to know exactly what engine it had and what mods were carried out. This could be good business for a tuning company if word got out that they were the ones that created the fire breathing 180mph monster.
