I'd imagine the ceramics alone would be almost worth 10secs over a non-ceramic equipped RS5 on that track, stronger, more confident braking and lighter weight.

75kg heavier than my RS4 though? That's a whole extra passenger! I'm happy to hazard a guess there'll be virtually nothing in it.
I am happy to bet you a quid.

I don't care about the List Price! I'll probably be getting one! (List Prices don't count when it's 5years old  )

Anyhow, all this debate about how fast it'll go roung the Ring will probably be irrelevant to 98% of UK cars that will probably never see it!

Bit of banter I suppose!

Absolutely. :) It is worthwhile however to acknowledge that this car will be nearly at the top of the tree on so many aspects. And 'Ring time is often a benchmark for this type of car. Will they mention it in the brochure?

Even if each S-tronic shift is only 1/10 sec faster than a manual shift in the RS4, there is your 10 secs...
Hmm, yeah, never thought of that.....
SR71 wrote:The GTR is ~1700kg and runs sub 7.30 with (ostensibly) ~480hp so the extra 60hp is worth ~30 secs on the RS4!
Weight + trick diff = performance
I would suggest it's a bit more than a trick diff and 60hp that makes the GTR 30 seconds quicker than the RS4 (despite the GTR's weight as you mention). In particular the 434lb ft torque the blown engine creates compared to the 317 of the audi. The main point being the GTR chassis is a bespoke design rather than one robbed / adapted from another VAG platform.
SR71 wrote:I predict somewhere between 7:50-7:55.
That would be amazing. :D Not sure where you guys get your times from but this is from supercars.net. 10 seconds quicker than stippler's 7.58 would put it ahead of some pretty quick cars. Just can't see it - GT3 RS fast?! Don't want to appear negative here either. I genuinely hope it is as quick as you are expecting.

At least 1 second slower than carrera s or vag have just made the bulk of the 911 range look stupid.

my guess, with sport tires 8:00 to 8:05 when tested by sport auto and von Sauma

That's what I reckon too Arthur. That Stippler lap seems to have been exceptional, I doubt he'd do another 7.58 in a hundred attempts! The RS4 8.09 by sport auto minus 3 or 4 secs.

the only valid GTR time, independent tester...and a Ring master
7:38 Nissan GT-R Horst von Saurma Sport Auto (07/2009),[21] Dunlop tires
Nissan also ran a 7:38 with cut slicks, Suzuki test driver

it weighs ~ the same as the RS5, and has 50% more torque...

yep

the sport auto RS4 had sport tires, carbon brakes, sport suspension
RS5 has the same torque as the RS4 and weighs more...
it may be slower

Ok. I will be generous and concede up to 8:05, then how about 1 quid for each second below that.

and it isn't a hotted up a5 (good as the A5 may be).

He probably could, but what is the chance of him doing 7:50 in the RS5, if he managed to lop 11 seconds of HvS's time of 8:09 for the RS4.

I say a fair chance, but this is now difficult territory, also politically within the VAG group. Exciting days.

what did the S5 run vs the A5?
S5 8:24
S4 (avant) 8:29
both by sport auto

the RS5 is not going to be faster than an R8 with sport tires that weighs >300 lbs less and has a mid-engine balanced design...
whats amazing is the RS4 is so close to the R8, same driver...8:09 vs 8:04

or the M6 ~ exact same time 8:09, same driver...both on sport tures...
507 HP vs 420 and only a 70 lb wt difference...much more torque...

Generous - to whom??!! 8:09 now is it??!! It might well have been the jammiest lap in the world but Stippler's 7:58 is on the board  knowing my luck the RS5 flippin' will be MUCH faster!!!
