RS5 Stolen....keys not taken

Post by mark758 » Sun Oct 20, 2013 9:59 pm

Left 'securely' locked on the drive, no mention of a break in for the keys :|

[October 18, Shropshire Star]
Police today traced a high performance car less than 40 minutes after it was stolen from Albrighton, near Shifnal.
The blue Audi RS5 was stolen from the driveway of a home in Beamish Lane, Albrighton. It was reported by a resident who spotted two hooded men driving off in the vehicle at 2.18am.
West Mercia Police launched immediate inquiries including directing patrols in the area to check all major routes, especially those leading to the West Midlands.
West Midlands and Staffordshire Police were also alerted as were the Central Police Motorway Group (CMPG).
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “The theft was reported within seconds of it happening which enabled us to mobilise our officers and alert neighbouring forces who assisted in the search.
“We were able to track some of the vehicle’s movements and it was located by officers at 2.54am having been abandoned in the Hodge Hill area of Birmingham. It has now been returned to its owner and inquiries are continuing into the theft.”
The spokesperson added: “The car had been left securely locked on the driveway overnight. We are appealing for information about the theft and those involved which can be given by calling 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
“This incident demonstrates how important it is for the police to receive early notification of any criminal or suspicious activity so we can check it out immediately without delay.”

These cars can't be cloned, they have toi be programmed in through the cars diagnostic system

After working in electonic security for a while I would replace 'cant' with 'difficult, time consuming and possibly expensive'.

I'm a key cutter/shoe repairer and there is no legal way to clone the transponder chip that is used for these. You need the right type of chip and a diagnostic programmer that plugs into the OBD port or you have to remove the ECU, de-solder the chip off the pcb and EEPROM the chip with the new key information.

...no legal way?!?! Who are you, Ned Flanders? It's a dandy-did-diddly thing-a-rino that car thieve-a-oklies abide-by-areno by the dang-diddly-law-a-riffico.
If you want to know how to clone a new transponder for certain cars, you can find out how to do so on the Interwebby thing. There is even a guide within these hallowed pages.

There's no legal way to clone a mobile phone IMEI and yet I've sat in a room with some senior mobile network tenical bods scratching their heads when presented with five phones with the same number.
Not saying it's easy or that it's cheap but I shy heavily away from saying something isn't possible when dealing with electronic systems.

I specialise in digital forensics and I've had to replace the phrase "unbreakable" with "statistically unbreakable".

Maybe they access the info first then flash the correct EEPROM for that type of key? it's a game among these types some develop and some hack - maybe some do both!! Anyways if the US Pentagon / NASA / Interpol security systems can be compromised from a teenagers bedroom...
