New Gearbox

Post by Nickyboy » Wed Oct 30, 2013 10:06 am

I've had my car in as I haven't been pleased with the gear changes.

Long story short; new gearbox on its way and will be here in 15 days.

Apparently total cost would have been roughly 10k. Glad I've got a warranty.

10k !

Ouch, you would be nuts to run one of these with no warranty.

Well the symptoms are occasional jerky gear changes and sometimes it takes an age to engage the gear.

Causes I'm unsure of yet, they mentioned internals, I'll get more info later. I'll ask to speak to the tech when I go in.

The issue was to do with a component in the unit which led to some oil seepage. This component is still functioning but is degraded. They said that they could replace the unit inside the box but other issues may cause problems later on. Therefore they are replacing the mechatronics unit and clutch pack.

The above is their words.

The 10k figure was parts, coding new gear box and labour.

As an aside; I love how C5 owners have responded to this thread. I bet most people thought this was in the wrong section!

Hi Nicky, would you be able to describe the process your dealer went through in order to diagnose and then authorise replacement? Technician test drive? Data logging and sending to factory?

Many thanks

Glad it's been sorted properly for you Nick. I would say the gearbox supplier (zf?) would want the complete box back to inspect it fully. Good news they are slapping a complete box in, FREE.

I'm unsure exactly but it has been in for four days in total. I reckon they've done all of the above. Fishy question :sekret:

Nothing sinister, I'm having similar problems with the gearbox in my TT RS and it's slow progress with my dealer so just trying to find out as much as I can.

Difficulty you have (I guess) is a stage 2 tuned car.

Didn't the ECU have to be opened on the 5 pot?

If they are arguing you've modified the car you are probably going to struggle.
