2013 36K miles Timing Chain?

Post by aarond » Fri Dec 25, 2015 7:24 am

Hi,

Very new here, if you see from my welcome post don't think the car has even officially been handed over yet as couldn't drive her away from where the salesman had parked it.

To cut a long story short on Wednesday at 1330 I went to collect my new to me 2013 S4 Avant with 36K on the clock with FASH :biggrin3: they had just carried out the major service. Do the usual paperwork, then away to leave with a massive grin, sit in the car and I thought it feels like it is vibrating or pulsing a bit and I couldn't remember it doing it before but thought perhaps just excitement. Put her into drive, put little bit of throttle car starts running rough EPC light comes on. Stop car go and get salesman. This was all within a few seconds of getting in the car.

I opt to wait in the hope that is something simple but come about 1700 I got the dreaded news the car wont be ready today or tomorrow. Car is misfiring badly.

Yesterday as promised I got an update regarding the car, no further forward with the problem but they are now looking at the timing chain with the thoughts that a timing chain tensioner that's allowed the timing chain to move :? but just guess work by the sounds of it at the moment.

Really pretty gutted, audi dealership have been good so far which is the real positive thing. Hopefully they get it sorted soon :boohoo:

From my reading I didn't think the later cars had timing chain issues as much as the earlier ones, should I be concerned ?

Never heard of a single timing chain issue on these motors.

Are you serious? I really hope you have a warranty and got some serious discount. Are you not concerned what effect diesel getting through such a engine will have?

B8 Black Edition MY2013 - so one of the later ones.

I'm still giving the dealership stick as the engine has the periodical misfire fault codes registered on some of the cylinders that VCDS picks up but no engine lights come on

Make sure you have it in writing from them a full log of the incident and them accepting responsibility for it.

Maybe the start of paranoid posts now, went for a wee run then noticed at idle feels like a slight sort of vibration going through the car (feel it through the seat) is this normal?

Hopefully videos work one with bonnet closed on with it open.

Doesn't sound like my engine. Plug in a VCDS and see if there are any fault codes logged

Diesel? FFS. Have you considered having it inspected by an unrelated Audi dealer? Whatever remedial work they recommend would have to surely be undertaken by your dealer?

They do shimmy a bit at idle I think it's dmf possibly?Or v6 harmonic engine vibration?Putting diesel in a petrol is fine it actually lubricates injection pump etc.Petrol in a diesel is a problem as the pump isn't lubricated enough and can cause damage!Keep filling it and it will disappear!
