Sensor failures

Post by P300 » Sat Oct 25, 2014 1:40 pm

In wet weather, I've started getting a warning message coming up then immediately going away. It basically says the gearbox has a problem. I use a specialist to look after the car, so popped it over there and they checked the error codes for me this morning and it came up as a clutch overheat warning. It's booked in to be sorted out next week.
Anyone else had any issues like this? They think it's just a faulty sensor. Just hope it's not too difficult to get to so is an easy fix for them.

Yes, very similar symptoms on mine a few months back. I assume your car has an S-tronic transmission? Intermittent "gearbox malfunction" warning on the DIS, limp mode, then all of a sudden back to life again. Only happened once a week roughly but I got it checked out and it came back with this fault code:

P17D800 - Torque limitation due to clutch temperature

Audi Basingstoke located a TSB relating to this fault code and the symptoms I mentioned, and the recommended repair was to renew the printed circuit board on the mechatronic unit. This was completed and the transmission has been good as gold ever since.

Thanks for that - sounds identical!

I'll forward this to the garage.

Just wondering if the Mechatronic circuit board fix is going well? I've got the same symptoms and need to get an idea of costs and who to take it to....

Mine had the same issue - had mech unit fix done about 800 miles ago. Seems to have solved the problem. Hope it does not come back.

I took mine to a specialist and it looks like whatever problem it was, there is a known fix from Audi. They sorted it out and I've done a decent number of miles since with no problems at all. It was annoying but the fix was worth doing.
