Noticed my oil is at the minimum in the MMI today (after long journey).

I know that this will sound silly but before I go-ahead I thought it best I check !!

I am going to buy Mobil 1 5W/30 as per this link: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165581

Is that OK to use ?

Second question, do i just add 500ml and then check MMI again and see if it registers. Is it instant or do I need to start the car and wait ?

It meets the 504.00 specification so should be fine.

As you are showing the level at the minimum, adding 0.5 litres in one go should be fine.

Check again after 2 minutes after adding oil (without starting).

How much oil do your engines use roughly?
