Anyway, everyone at Audi has been great and I look forward to getting things resolved and getting my sorted car back with some goodwill to sweeten things up.

I've thought over night and getting rid of the S4 would be a last resort.
When you get the S4 back you will realise you've made the right decision and driving the Q7 will make you miss the S4 even more, by the way any strange noises coming from that Q7?.
It's got squeaky brakes!

Perhaps "non squeaky brakes" come as an optional extra. :audibash:

Could be right.

Next stage:

First of all well done Audi UK and Bristol Audi as they now have me in an S5 cab. It is awesome. It just seems slightly more 'turned up' than the S4. Bit louder, bit sharper, etc. it's not quicker than the S4 but it just does it in a more raw way.

Its done 1000 miles, covered in scratches, alloys scuffed loads and it is filthy. I've already cleaned it and made an attemp at making the exhausts chrome looking again.

No news on my S4 yet though. Time will tell.

Im glad your happy with AUDI and the new loaner its nice on a cold dry day to have the roof off[warm clothing and heaters on] Coming from a mercedes sl i nearly bought an S5 cab instead of my S4 test drove one they're a nice car but the canvas roof put me off. Rule 1 applies we've not had one photo of these loaners.

Here you go:

When you use the kick down feature it stops accelerating for a brief moment and then slams forward. The S4 doesn't have this small hesitation. The S5 gear change is much nicer like this. I was laughing loudly whilst driving it. Sounds great with the top down when doing the gear shift farts.

S4 Recall (potentially)

Post by longdog » Fri Feb 22, 2013 6:03 pm

A mate of mine is looking at a second hand one so I'd be interested to hear your views, does it have the sports diff and ADS?
Glad you're getting looked after by Audi.

It doesn't have drive select and I doubt the diff.

They have different specs which makes a huge difference. E.g. S5 doesn't have cruise control WTF! It feels more planted than the S4 and the gearbox has a better kickdown. The gearbox holds onto the gears longer. Doesn't have folding mirrors which I miss. The boot was surprisingly ok for our weekend away. Rear room for one child is fine but that's it really.

As you probably guess the S4 is clearly the better family car but the S5 is slightly more driver focused by being slightly louder when pressing on. Nicer gear changes and feels slightly more raw (can't really explain it).

It doesn't have a flat bottom steering wheel which sucks and the piano black inlays aren't on the S5 which makes it feel less luxurious. Overall, I have no idea what I prefer.

It also feels smaller and more snug which we like. The mrs felt more confident in the S5 as well.

The S5 is shorter in length and has a shorter wheelbase over the S4 thats why it probably feels more planted.

Visibility is also shocking on the S5. Bit dangerous in my opinion.
