My experience, coming from a B7 rs4 is that i believe the B8 s4 is a step up if not at least a step sideways from the b7 in all regards.
I wanted a genuine family car my wife could get on with (i.e auto), didn't have the cash nor really the desire to own a B8 rs4 so i picked up a fully loaded S4.
For me, it is the perfect car and ticks all the boxes and if you want more grunt, for 2k you can get 500bhp and r8 v10 performance. Yes, really.

From Doug at MRC
"The car is very capabale - a V10 R8 creeps away on track on the straights but with the S4 easily holds its own in the corners with the sport diff really helping and making it faster over a lap than the V10. This car has bilstein coilovers and h&r arbs."
Yawn
Ill stop now
Yes I love my S4

Re: My second B8 S4
I bought mine around this time last year, had 30k on the clock and all the necessary extras, sports diff, sports seats, BO (or maybe thats just me) and some nice touches, keyless, etc in phantom.
Anyway, i paid 25k from a private deal, with extended manufacturers warranty. Looking at the prices, i think would try for the same if i moved it on now.
Im no track driver, bit ive been told the sports diff is a must have for enthusiasts so thats the only thing id suggest you hold out for. Fontain are reputable and have a higher miler for 23k or so.
Basically, I think you are looking at 20k min, up to 25 for a minter. Or later 20s if you want the 8.5 from... August '12 on i think. Different wheel and some other stuff. Not a lot on here, u can try some other websites for S4 stuff. Plenty around

Re: My second B8 S4
I've had mine, from new, for nearly 3 years and had every intention of trading it in for a B8 RS4 once it was released but decided against it due to the fact that for the extra cash outlay I didn't think I was gaining that much.
I love the look of the RS and the sound but the platform is old and the engine, Dare I say it, could do with more power and torque.
The S4 is a great car but if you have your mind set on an RS then, no matter how good it is, it may not be for you.
My next purchase will be a B9 RS4 as long as the V8 is retired.

Re: My second B8 S4
I would love another RS but the B7 killed us in running costs plus the issues we had with the DRC and the cost in fixing that. But this would be a second car and travelling about 6-8k a year so it could be a better buy this time around.longdog wrote:I've had mine, from new, for nearly 3 years and had every intention of trading it in for a B8 RS4 once it was released but decided against it due to the fact that for the extra cash outlay I didn't think I was gaining that much.

Re: My second B8 S4
I should have also said that I love the car and would, and do, recommend one to anyone thinking about getting one.
Re: My second B8 S4
I must admit I was close to buying one of these and getting MRC to have a play when I rejoined the Audi fold. In the end I found I wanted back the V8 sound more than I wanted the extra power and torque. Great cars though and have to be one of the best all weather sleepers out there.
Re: My second B8 S4
In standard form it is a match for a B7 RS4 performance wise I'd say but with an MRC stage 2 it is a proper tool and feels (and is) far quicker than the B8 RS4/RS5 having test driven them. I'll admit that coming from owning a 340bhp Impreza and 400bhp Evo IX it doesn't feel manic fast but it is, I was lucky enough to have regular access to a 09 GTR previously and it really isn't all that far off performance wise and that is high praise indeed.doodlebug wrote:Agreed. Had one for best part of four months and it does little for me. It's a bit slow, doesn't make a very good noise and can best be described as meh.
It's little better on the fuel than the RS4, only real difference is with a large chunk of motorway cruising.
The sound isn't ever going to match a V8 and isn't that great for a V6 even but it certainly isn't offensive and I'd say it matches the character of the car, subtle but just enough to let you know it's potential.
RS4 is a flashier car and will get far more attention no doubt but the S4 is the ultimate Q car so depends what you're looking for.
Re: My second B8 S4
Im not comparing a S4 to a V10 R8!
but I've had x2 and driven 20k in them.
but given the choice of B8 S4 and my V6 XF 'S' ... I'd take the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaag

Having owned both, what has the XF S got that the S4 doesn't?
To me, it appears that the S4 has it on performance, residuals, brand recognition (unless you are into saga holidays).
So genuinely, what has it given you? Fuel economy appears to be about it from what i can see?
Guess you get a good staff discount at JLR?

One suggestion, take it or leave it. These are Audi forums, frequented mainly by people who have invested significant time and money into... Audis.
I wouldn't go to a JLR forum and preach, slag off their brand or try to convert others. I don't post much but i do read these forums a lot. I know you have a lot if history here, have also owned a lot of Audis, but when posting please respect our brand even if you don't any more.

LOL, chill dude
Btw I still have this on the drive!

Re: My second B8 S4
I think the S4 is a great car. Does exactly what you want of it and more. OK it didnt do it in a flashy way but I guess that's what you buy an S4 for, to have the performance and be under the radar. Admittly I am moving onto the RS4 but I definately wouldn't say the S4 was a boring car.
