Hi all,
Considering a roadtrip to Italy next year and was wondering what's the best route to take. I'm in Newcastle Upon Tyne and have three options:
1. Drive to Calais and get the ferry and go through France to Italy
2. Same as above but eurotunnel.
3. Ferry to Amsterdam from Newcastle (north shields) and drive through Germany and Switzerland over the alps to Lake Garda.
Eurotunnel prob quickest but was told the spaces are quite tight (kerbed wheels). The Germany route will prob be most fun;).
Any thoughts, info appreciated.

re. eurotunnel, just book an overheight vehicle (no extra charge), or even if you dont book that, when you go, just follow the signs for overheight vehicles and they let you in the big carraiges no issues - I ALWAYS do this.

I think option 3. for a couple of reasons, 1 being Autobahns (what the C6 is made for) and 2. for Alps, i.e. Stelvio Pass ! I've done it and its simply amazing

thats gonna cost ALOT in fuel!?! I say £1k ?

Did this exact trip two years ago with some other RS246 RS4 owners.

Day 1 (Sunday)
drive to Nurburgring (300 miles) from various landing points in Europe, lunch and a lap or two round track. Freshen up, stay near the ring first night

Day 2 (Monday)
Early Drive drive down to Ingolstadt / Neckarsulm (300 miles) Tour round factory in the afternoon, stay in B&B just outside Audi

Day 3 (Tuesday)
Drive down to and stay at Davos (233 miles) Davos via Stelvio Via Bormio, play on Stelvio pass for a while, stay in Davos overnight

Day 4 (Wednesday)
Second go at Stelvio, take in views, pics, drive down to and stay near Lake Garda (203 miles)

Day 5 (Thursday)
Lake Garda to Lake Como up to St. Moritz and finish up in Zurich. (203 miles)

Day 6 (Friday)
Zurich back to the coast with Zurch being the point where we break convoy; duty free shopping, back to Blighty.

Fantastic and the place we statyed at in Garda with fabulous.

Budgeting £850 for fuel. But then again I didn't buy it for its environmentally friendly mpg. Option 3 sounds the way to go. The car is made for the trip:). Don't know if the wife and two kids will agree though;)

Given the C6's fuel economy compared to a B7 RS4 budget a bit more than that. I think my fuel bill came in around £900.

also, your wife and kids wont have a clue your doing 170mph the C6 is honestly that smooth and stable at those speeds

I would go for the euro tunnel. It is a bit tight on the train. I think there was a couple of inches each side before the kerb. Did try the oversized line but got waved on.

For the fuel bill. I did 2200 miles, Rutland to Toulouse and back via a bit of traveling in the week. Spent £750. Not too bad

Sounds a bit tight, but work out best places to fill up. We did 2,600 mile round trip down to Italy - many fill ups - surprisingly Switzerland was cheaper than France: http://www.theaa.com/resources/Document ... ly2012.pdf

Has to be the ferry from Newcastle to Holland, does make me laugh about people posting about how much the fuel will cost, if you want to go that distance you have to pay for it regardless.
