Winter wheels

Hello everybody,

I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for some advice.

I'm coming back to Audi (I now have a Lexus  ) in a month.
I'm waiting for my new RS6 Avant (I dare say they have not stopped production  ) by late September/early October.

My use of the car does not involve much snow driving (once or twice during winter), but we have quite some rain till spring.

I have 20' wheels with standard tires, but the dealer suggests I get 19' for the winter wheels (November to February/March). What do you think?
And should I ask for any specific tire model?

Thank you all for your help :)

Hi there,
If it is rain I wouldn't bother, if on the other hand you had to drive frequently on snow, then yes, I would change my tyres/wheels for the winter.

Isn't aquaplaning a problem with 20' wheels?

I've just picked up my new RS6 and it's raining so I'll let you know.

Diameter of the wheel has little to do with aquaplaning. It's the width of the tire that matters, and it's thread depth and design.

I've driven through plenty of heavy rains over the past year and haven't encountered a problem. Driving fast over standing water will result in hydroplaning in any car, and it's manageable, just gotta be fast with steering wheel correction :)

I am a new RS6 avant owner and can tell you that Aquaplaning is always an issue with typres over 255 in diameter, just be sensible in the heavy puddles that's all.

Thanks for the replies :notworthy: (I didn't see them before :? )

I guess that I'll go with the 20' Pirelli Subzero II ... once they give me the car. I really hate the waiting!!!
Two weeks to go.
