Hi,

It's been a very long time since I last called in here, but does anyone know anything about the new RS6 ?
I've just put an order in for one at Listers in Coventry and the only thing I know is that it has a twin-turbo V10 with 580bhp in Avant form and it is due in Q1 '08.

Regards,
Paul

Don't be too cocky, I've had a number of RS Audis before so I do have some experience, including the first UK customer RS6. :D

I thought I'd get in early with an order, you never know what will happen later on

Wasn't meant to offend Paul and if I did, Sorry :(

That post took me by surprise and when i read it I did lol.

Maybe we're in different worlds, if i put down a deposit for a 20k car let alone a 60k+ car I would have asked questions beforehand, done a bit of homework or something.

As I said, must be i a different world ;)

(4th time this week i need a "green eyed monster smillie")

:D

Paul - have you actually ordered one or just put down a deposit to get high up on the delivery list? If so what kind of money did you have to put down and were there conditions attached? (e.g. is it refundable?). My local dealership keep mentioning £1500 to get me on their list but I keep saying I need to know more about the car before even contemplating putting any money down. My biggest concern is the actual final cost of it once it's released ... I'm kind of thinking it's going to be £70k to £75k'ish to have one specced which is a lot of dosh on a car.

I appreciate there's plenty of kudos in having one of the 1st in the country plus if you sell on reasonably quickly whilst there's plenty of demand then financially it's quite a shrewd move. Personally I'd always be worried about being a bit of a test mule whilst they debug any early design issues. Buy early - buy late ... it's all a bit of a gamble in the end.

If you can blag a V10 S6 for a day from your local dealership you'll be able to get a flavour of what the new RS6 is going to be like.

Rich.

its getting a pi55 take now, the cost of these cars, 3 years time it will have shed at least HALF its value!! makes it a more appealing proposition then. :bigblink:

Adam,
You're right "cheeky" would have been better and I'm not offended
Rest assured, we inhabit the same world and I could no more justify this sort of money for a car than the next sane person. However, when the last RS6 came out, I ordered 2, sold one for a small premium and kept the other for 4-5 months and then sold it for what I paid for it.
The thought of the potential depreciation would bring me out in cold sweats, which is why I sold it. I then bought a very, very low mileage RS4, which I kept for 2 years.
I found the RS4 to be a more rewarding car to drive than the RS6.

Rich,
I have put my name on the list to be able to order one when they start taking firm orders. They want £1,000 and it WILL be refundable.

To be honest, I'm not entirely decided yet as I have a bunch of other things where the money would be better spent i.e. a Vincent motorbike and a long term GT40 build.

Paul

"I ordered 2"... buy 1 get 1 free?

so you recon the B5 (?) RS4 is more fun than the RS6??? I drove an RS6 on the bedford autodrome with an instructor and the power was immense :biggrin3: BUT it has an auto box and I spent just about every corner going for the gear stick!! pity it didnt have a manual box like its little brother...

I bet the next RS6 wont have a manual box either, but the DSG maybe an option, if it is ok for the Veyron then a car with half the power shouldnt cause any problems.

The RS4 was a more driver focused car and while the RS6 was very quick, it almost didn't need the driver as it did everything itself. Whilst the power was great fun to start off with, I wanted something more to sustain a longer term relationship. That isn't to say the RS4 was perfect, it wasn't and I had a number of technical problems that took ages for the dealers to resolve, but I did enjoy driving it.

If anyone is interested, a friend of mine is selling his low mileage Avus MTM RS6. It has, I believe, 560bhp, MTM wheels, MTM exhaust and a bunch of other interesting stuff totalling over £17K, for just under £40K.

I've been No.1 in Preston Audi's list for the new RS6 since i sold my last RS6 & they are now wanting me to invest £1000 to retain my slot (that said i have an excellent relationship with this dealer). I'm going to pay my bag of sand as i'm 99% positive i could buy & run for 6mths with little or no depreciation.

However the new (see potential) RS5 has been catching my eye, so i may take a punt on both & see what happens.

I've been an S ad RS driver since 1993.

I currently have a 4 year old RS6 with MTM breaks & supposedly a chip upgrade to 500 bhp

The current RS4 is blisteringly quick and great to drive. Gearbox and power delivery from standstill is awesome, but mid range torque & space no match for current RS6.

I recently drove an S6 Avant (V10) .. nothing special & rather light steering.

I also test drove a BMW M5 which was ok but I was more impressed by the Merc E63.

I paid a deposit of £ 1500 in Jan 2007 for a yet to be released RS6 Avant ... it needs to have at least 550 bhp / torque of 500 plus and steering / suspension on a par with the RS4.
