Buying an import

Post by Martyns » Fri Mar 01, 2024 10:50 am

Is there any negatives to buying a Japanese imported rs6, other than clocks in kmh!

Also is it best to look for low milage rs6 , 60,000 miles or go for higher milage 120,000 that’s had the dreaded oil seal done

Every imported one that I have seen, were not exactly in the best of condition. Also, avoid any that are being sold in the Bradford / Leeds area as the sellers are less than honest!

Have had my C6 (my 4th RS6 and 2nd C6 out of 20+ Audis over the years) for 9 years now and still only 58k miles (bought it on 18k miles in 2015). They are MEGA cars but are expensive to maintain PROPERLY, mine has just had a £2,500 spend on full DRC refresh with all new flexi pipes by Grizz at Unit20 but my car is completely pampered and wants for nothing!

Hi NICKH, I'm curious what you consider expensive to maintain properly. How much has it cost over the 9 years you've had it? I'm looking at getting one now as well (as a daily driver), my mental barrier is probably at around 4-5k CHF per year in maintenance. Not that I would have issues covering a higher bill, but I would find it difficult to justify the expense (especially as I already have a B7 RS4).

My car is still low miles at 57k but I have just spent over £1k on full service with new plugs and coil packs (1 had started to fail so i replaced them all), £2.5k on 4 new DRC suspension flexi pipes (started weeping) and 2 new rear coil springs (1 had snapped), then another £1k+ on a fresh set of MPS4S's (mine were over 5 years old now so I replaced them) plus over £2.5k on fresh front & rear discs and pads (I upgraded to RB Racing Rotors BBK). So that's £7k on maintenance and refreshing parts without having to spend on unforeseen repairs as they are very reliable cars IF YOU DO THE PREVENTITIVE MAINTENANCE.

I had already done the dreaded engine/gearbox oil seal, coolant pipes (fitted new set of FULL pipes not just a repair of the old ones), suspension arms, engine oil tank (they corrode) and replacement intercoolers (1 was leaking so I upgraded to full Wagner setup) during my ownership.

Overall, I would say that I have spent maybe £25k over my 9 years of ownership but the car only does around 3K miles a year.
