Oil leak rear of engine

A car I am looking at that has pretty much perfect service history but seems per the last MOT to have a small oil leak towards the rear of the engine. Having done some limited reading does seem to be a common fault and and engine out and seals replacement to boot.
Has anyone got experience and advice as to who should look at this and what the likely costs might be?
Thanks, Bruce

Hi Brucie, most Audi independent specialists can do the job of the infamous "50p seal" without having to remove the engine but it's still quite labour intensive so expect to pay around £1500 at the top end IIRC.
Audi themselves usually quote £6k+ and will drop the engine, hence the increased price.
Depending on where you are in the country there's a range of specialists who can help. I've used 2 so far, UNIT20 in Neston near Ellesmere Port for the vast majority of my "normal" garage work and rate them extremely highly and further south near Banbury is
MRC Tuning who mainly specialise in Mapping (the best in the UK by far) as well as normal garage work (pretty good) but others may chip in with more people to chat to depending on your general location.

Pretty much that. There's a good day of labour involved in the job even if the engine stays in the car and the job is straight forwards. If the coolant pipes under the RH arch are crusty it's best to have the engine out and have both jobs done at the same time. My oil leak was commented on as 'misting' back in 2016, a year or so later the car was dropping a good tablespoon's worth of oil over night and had a coating of the stuff in a wide strip back to pretty near the rear axle.

Cheers gents appreciate it. I am based in Epping in Essex. Any places that I should take the car to specifically.

I had mine done about 5 months ago at Guildford Audi through extended warranty. All seems fine 500 miles on. Maybe they don’t recover the full labour rate if it’s warranty but it was about 2200 (inc vat). Did the plugs at same time which made sense to avoid the normal few hours labour

You have an Audi extended Warranty on a 11 to 13 year old car, I didn't realise Audi dud warranties on cars that old!

Yep for vehicles with less than 100,000 miles at time of renewal of warranty
