Tyre recommendation please

Dear All
Have got Dunlop Sportmaxx GT Sportmax 275/35 ZR20 (102Y) RO1 on car at the moment but Dunlop now only make the winter variant of this. What else was put on our cars at the time when new? I see people recommending Pirelli PZero and Bridgestone Potenza? Michelin Pilot Sports don't seem to come in R01 variant.
Thanks guys
Best
Sean

Personally I would forget the "R01" marking, it's just extra money for manufactures to get Audi, BMW etc to put their approval on the tyre.

I've used the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyre on my RS6 for nearly 5 years, over nearly a dozen trackdays, driven over 200mph in Germany, coped with 900hp etc and mine were not "R01" spec, just bog standard 275/35-20 102Y XL tyres yet did everything without issue for over 40K miles so far.

I found the MPSS to be "the best" for my uses, relatively cheap at £220 a tyre, extremely good tyre in the dry (class leading), very good in the wet (but there are better) but the life span is excellent considering the huge dry weather grip (which normally means softer so low mileage) with my tyres getting 15k+ miles.

I would rate the following very highly (in no order) in addition to the ones you already mentioned -

Continental CSC6 - Equal to MPSS in both Dry and Wet but wears much faster
Goodyear Eagle F1 - Better wet handling than all the rest, only about 85% of the dry handling compared to MPSS

So the Super Sport rather than the Sport 4S?

The sport 4s is the newer version of the pilot super sports

My wife has them on her S3 and there great wet or dry and ill be putting them on my RS4 next year as my current contis are just about done

My car had new Continental Contact 6 on when I bought, I thought excellent tyres, couldn't fault them really.

Then got 2nd hand MTM 21" 2/3 years ago which had halfish worn Dunlops on, hated them. Bearing in mind my car is stage 2, they just couldn't handle the torque, spinning up constantly and unexpectedly, very twitchy.

Bought Michelin PS4S last year, fantastic tyres so far.

I went from Dunlop Sportmaxx to Goodyear Eagle F1 assyms 2. Few generations old now but I had great experiences with them on a Z4 so decided to stick with them.
In my opinion, the Sportmaxx are softer and marginally better in the dry. Saying that, the Goodyears rarely break traction in the dry anyway and that's with a stage 2 car.
In the wet, it's no competition. The Goodyears are leagues above the Dunlops. Seem to be wearing well too.

I've only used the MPSS so can't give a personal recommendation on the MPS4S but I know others rate them extremely highly, at least as good as the MPSS.

Always been pleased with the F1’s on my cars.

I figure since it’s mostly wet in this country, that’s the tyre to be on.

I have Continental Sport Contact 6 on mine and I can't fault them. Good grip in both wet and dry and have lasted reasonably well.

Another vote for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical 2, here. Quiet, excellent wet performance and I think a great all rounder. I have had Michelins on a couple of 911s however they’re more expensive by some margin.

Always had goodyear on my B5 and B7 couldn't fault them but then they didn't make on for the B8 so i went for Michelin super sport and have continued to use them now in the pilot 4 s version i got about 20k on my last set on the B8 so good value as the seem to be harder wearing

I have Pilot Sport 3 and 4 on the Esprit (though obvs a totally different car at 1200kg and 320bhp) and I won't put anything else on it. Phenominal grip.

Just watch the pressures. I ruined a PS3 by driving it with one of the tyres about 10 psi low by accident.
