unfortunately, my vehicle was recently diagnosed with faulty PAS steering pump. Even more (un)fortunate for me, to replace the same an engine needs to be dropped .

Albeit this was always on my agenda (as in engine drop), it is now getting accelerated due to aforementioned fault. So this brings me to an interesting topic where I'd like to gather some feedback from like-minded individuals who had experienced these challenges, e.g. while the car is at the garage and work is in progress, would you recommend to tackle any other jobs?

- engine mounts
- anything to do with turbo's
- exhaust downpipes
- oil pump
- etc.?

I will certainly redo 50p oil seal (as it's been nearly 7years since it was replaced).

From what I remember, the PS pump is tight with the oil pump and has to be moved forwards to remove it from the drive shaft - I suspect you'd have to remove the oil pump to be able to get the PS pump off the car. There's a specific method to follow when refilling the hydraulic oil.

By hydraulic, assume you refer to DRC right?

No, sorry - technically the PS pump is often referred to as a hydraulic pump. The PS fluid used isn't the usual red PS fluid, it's a green/gold hydraulic oil. The DRC is not connected with it.

I’m pretty sure it’s not engine out to change the pas pump on these.

I haven't replaced it myself but those who have say that the engine can stay in the car.
