Rear Diff bearings

Hi All,

I had a slight whine in the diff between 80-70KPH on decel. The diff was removed and disassembled by my transmission guy. He found one of the carrier bearings had lost its hard face off the tapered roller bearings. He and i have found replacement bearings impossible to purchase. Audi claim that the diff is not serviceable and must be replaced with new?
Can anyone assist with bearing numbers, or where i can purchase them or a service kit?
Cheers
Andrew

Long shot but these guys might be able to help, they offer rs4 diff components, you may get lucky...

IME, most bearings have a code on them - often it's etched into one of the non-bearing faces. Just to make things awkward, it's usually a mounting face so you can't see the code until you've removed the bearing.

To close out this thread.
The diff carrier, tapered roller bearings are made by SKF in Brazil. The numbers on the shell and cone cannot be sourced through SKF or cross referenced to another brand.
I ended up finding a low KM diff and installing it.
Another good reason to replace the diff oil regularly.

Surely the bearings could be measured and sized for an appropriate replacement? If someone makes the bearing I find it most unlikely that they made them only for Audi direct.
