Exhaust Noise ....

So, having previously owned a C7 and had it tuned with Miltek non res exhaust and I loved the yobo growl and snark as you dropped off the revs.

Now I own a C6 which has been tuned by AMD and Miltek fitted and whilst it hits 700bhp I miss the “yeah hear me growl” shouty V8 sound! Infact - I’ve got the horrid drone but have a solution to that thanks to one of the fellas on this forum.

I’m in two minds to keep the Mitek!

In case others I wondering, having owned the c6 and C7 both tuned by AMD with miltek fitted, the C6 doesn’t like going slow. The C7 you can happily trundle around town whereas the C6 just wants to go full beans!

I’ve heard plenty of C6 RS6 owners which have a lovely tone so just wondering how to approach it and anyone with videos of their exhaust and set up.

PJ

When I had my C6, I got a custom catback made up but if I was to do it again I’d just buy a supersprint. Some good videos on YouTube to help you decide!

How do you make the C6 Exhaust sound more high pitched going through the Revs rather than deep bass ? Is there a particular off the shelf system that does this type of sound well for the C6 RS6 ?

X-pipe = higher pitched
H-pipe = rounder / deeper

Also different muffler setups.

Remove the turbos and you will get a more high pitched sound like the M5 V10,

Hmmm. I want to keep all 750hp otherwise I would consider downgrade  .

I didn't think my V10 M5 was that great sounding either TBH, but the exhaust was stock.

I will try resonators and introducing an X pipe. Perhaps a Supersprint system come black Friday.

Supersprint has a deeper tone than a milltek.

Thanks Lee, you saved me a few quid in that case

Do we think a custom exhaust to be a better option for the higher pitched sound but with zero drone ?? or are these systems all pretty much the same from a tone perspective?

You won’t achieve the higher pitched sound due to the engine being turbo’d - nature of the beast I’m afraid.

You’ll never get it to sound how you think it should sound, Doug MRC’s words!

OK......I wonder why German car makers don't make their specialist cars sound like Italian supercars. You think they would have perfected that by now.

A lot of the exhaust tone comes down to engine design, angle of the crank on the V block, shape of the piston crown etc (none of which can be easily altered) as well as the shape/size/bends of the exhaust which can have a lesser effect.

Also, people don't want their German car to sound like an Italian one. If they did then all the German makes would already sound like that, but very few people do, so German cars sound German just like US cars sound like US cars and not Italian etc.

I personally found that having no back-boxes made the exhaust sound a little more "mid-rangey" on my older C5 RS6 and my C6 RS6 (less volume/expansion space = less bass) but in both cases the loudness of the car increased massively which may not be pleasing to everyone. I also found that, having decided to change my entire exhaust, going from an OEM 2.5in pipe to a full length 3in pipe made my C6 RS6 sound more bassy than before (more volume/expansion space = more bass) but I also went Cat-Less, different silencers etc so that may not be the most accurate thing to base an opinion on.

I thought the V10 was closely related to the gallardo unit, which is more like the sound required. I might check out one of their forums for research purposes only of course. :)

Common misconception but the V10 in the RS6 is substantially different to the Lamborghini unit
