Hi all,

Came across this big brake kit for the front of a C6 RS6. Maybe a good upgrade at a reasonable cost, 8 pot calipers, 405mm diameter floating discs, race brake pads and braided brake lines £1889 plus postage.

Anyone tried this kit?

Just an idea for you c6 rs6 owners

Andy

Interesting, mine could definitely do with a bit more stopping power. I wonder what I'd get for my current OEM setup on eBay.

Well that's a bit of a no-brained then as I was liking to spend £800 on the brakes next time round so I could get this upgraded kit and then recoup a chunk of the outlay. Hmmm.

Your welcome, I can't tell you what this upgraded kit is like but I have used performance friction brake products on my evo's and they performed really well Image

If the decision is steels over ceramics I probably wouldn't look any further than these viewtopic.php?f=47&t=122027

Problem with these kits is that they don't produce vehicle specific piston sizes, so it's hit and miss whether the piston area will be compatible with your master cylinder. If the piston area is too large in relation to the master cylinder, you end up getting a mushy pedal, and have to pump the pedal before the brakes activate fully. I made this mistake a few years ago, buying one of these brings generic kits from a Taiwanese company. Look lovely, but don't work.

Companies like Brembo, AP and Stoptech produce specific kits for designed to work for a particular application, with matched piston sizes, so that the pedal travel is optimised.

Food for thought. Buy cheap, buy twice...

Before going with the AP Racing 420mm kit I also looked at these but couldn't find any decent "independent" reviews any later than mid-2013, just some very positive owners reviews. Their actual name is/was Phat Boy Brakes and they are made in the same factory as K-Sport brakes so are a cheaper clone of those.

In the end I chose AP-Racing for a number of reasons but my main one for AP vs PB Brakes as they're based in the UK so if there are any issues it's much easier to get things sorted, plus they're a "known" motorsport quality manufacturer with a massive R&D section so I knew everything would be built to a high quality, work at extremes and be durable.

In the end, once you've added £250 for 2 piece rotors (now upto £1800), £200 for shipping, £90 Duty and £400 VAT, it's £2500 for the kit which isn';t so cheap for a kit coming from Taiwan.

Truly an epic kit as Ian said the AP 410's lasted 10+ laps of croft circut without any fade whatsoever they really are a stunning kit for the money, reccommend a brake fluid upgrade to AP's RadiCal R4 fluid or RBF600 etc.

Make sure you give them a very good bedding in. Mine were a bit "meh!" until I got the AP DS25 pads hot enough to start gassing off (took about 8 70-10mph emergency stops) but once bedded, HOLY POOP! :D
