hi guys I've been looking at the next car and it was a choice between a porsche cayenne its 2009 plate or a c6 rs6 avant
thankfully i have went with the audi
so the lookout/seach goes on
unfortunately my budget caps at 25k
so for that I'm looking for a red/blue or black car with sunroof.
was looking at getting something between the 60-70k miles as i only do about 5k a year and looking to keep this for a good few years
however I've been on auto trader and such sites and unfortunately seem to be able to see cars with over 80k for my budget.
is there known faults with the c6? e.g. what to look out for?
what should be done around the 80k mark? e.g. chains, pumps, belts??

Having the seals and coolant pipe go on mine recently, id say check its already had the engine out and when out all the seals were replaced. That's about it really.
Where abouts are you?

Same here, but other than that I'm getting on for 90K now with no issues.

The issues currently are more "Age" related than "Mileage" related so after 6-8 years rubber seals are starting to perish and pipes are starting to corrode. As for "mileage" issues I can't think of any except maybe the clicking wheel bearings, which seems to be pretty much non-existent now.
As for 80k miles servicing - Audi has two types of service, a 10k mile "minor" and a 20k mile "major", so at 80k miles I'd expect it to either need or just had a major servicing (around £700 from a specialist or £1200+ from Audi) which includes the spark plugs. Outside of what Audi say about the gearbox (sealed for life) I'd also get that serviced too (oil & filter for£450).
Hope that helps.

Pretty much what Ian said,
Im coming up 82k soon and mines been spot on, i've had the box oil and filter changed, i'll be servicing it and doing the plugs this Saturday ready for le-mans trip next week.
I do need to take it to Audi or find someone that can "electronically" stamp it for me as i do most of the work myself havent had this one a year yet (november) so i dont need to worry about the servicing book just yet but i do need to find a way to get it stamped, i really dont want to be paying Audi big money.

Is there any specific brand or grade of oil recommended for the gearbox?

Yeah has to be life guard 6 , which you can get from euro car parts febi do bottle the genuine for Vw you can get it from euro car parts and can get them down to £120 for 20l drum or get the zf filter kit and oil for £150 with the haggling ,
it's only listed under filter on their system but it does come with 7L of oil the system holds 10.8 but you won't get it out the torque converter or the valves so 7 is fine

if its any help, my 2008 has just clocked over 120k miles, had to do the oil pump last year due to internal seal failing but otherwise just normal consumables. I do a full fluid change every 10k and apart from some peculiar clicking noise i have been trying to sort from the front drivers wheel arch everything is tip top!

Could be the infamous "clicking wheel bearing" fault found on earlier RS6's.

I wish it was just the bearing, so far we have done wheel bearing, inner cv joints as they were loose, discs & pads, control arms so running out of things to change.
