Car in for servicing with Audi Camberley and needs 3 new tyres, 4th was replaced recently due to puncture. Running OEM Dunlop Sportmaxx at the moment and seems to be some mixed reviews on various threads. Also I note that their profile is so slim that no protection at all for rim with slightest touch on curb. Is it worth changing all 4 to Pirellis or other recommended or stick with the Dunlops?

I've had excellent results with both Michelin Pilot Super Sports (MPSS) and with Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2's. Compared to each other I found the Goodyears were *slightly* better in wet weather and the MPSS were *slightly* better but both were noticeably better than the Dunlops in all conditions, however both are louder than the Dunlops.

any difference in protection of rim edge?

Goodyears protected the most, then Michelin & finally Dunlops the least, although only by a very small margin compared to the Michelins.

+1 on Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Predictive handling. Have them on two of my cars.

Also had Pirelli P Zero, good tires but only lasted about 5000 km on the autobahn.

Thanks Guys...sounds as though Michelins are the preferred option...my challenge is I have one more or less new Dunlop of the four currently on the car so will need to decide how deal with this!

Stick 4 MPSS/GYAS2 on, eBay the newest Dunlop and , if you have the space in your house, keep the next best Dunlop to use as a temporary spare incase you have a puncture as virtually no-one stocks MPSS/GYAS2 in OEM sizes on the shelf and they take a few days to order in.

I swapped from the Dunlops to Goodyears a few weeks ago and have been very happy.

After putting MPSS on both my B7 RS4 and then my C6 RS6, I'd now never consider anything else - they're excellent. Staggering in the dry, and as still great in the wet. I'm actually almost looking forward to my tyres wearing out on the B8 so I can fit MPSS!

I just spoke to Audi re. the Contis and whilst they are listed as an option on their website they don't come with the Audi specific tested R01 number as the Pirelli and Dunlops do...not ideal?

Contis are <beep> so no matter, just avoid.

Phew.

As long as they are the correct size and rating I don't see an issue. I had non-R01 marked Dunlops from my stealer on my C6.

It just means Audi haven't tested the tyre and put their approval on it, probably due to cost/lack of a deal with Michelin. However, it doesn't mean the tyre isn't absolutely excellent and the best all-rounder I've ever used for everything except snow
