So my car has has an annoying knock on the drivers front side suspension the missus took it to my mates garage today and found out it has a burst shocker and the top suspension arm and top mount are worn also need replaced. Has anyone got any idea what new shockers cost ? and has anyone changed to coilovers ?
Cheers Nath

Nightmare mate
Your mechanic won't be able to fix mate unless he has the DRC pressurising equipment?
It will have to go to Audi or somewhere like Unit 20?
Top arms no problem but shockers no.
Not many C6 with shock failure...sure it's not just weeping?
Be a side effect of those lowering springs no doubt?

I havnt seen it mate but he said its either burst or been leaking a while !
Either way i dont think its gonna be cheap the joys of motoring !
Was hoping someone had an idea on price of shocks he is going to
get me a price so i should know tomorrow im not sure if he has the
equipment to do it or not ! I love the way it sits but im kind of
thinking should i put it back to standard height. Where abouts is unit 20
mate and do you know if there the original shocks ?
Cheers Nath

Unit 20/MRC have the DRC machine. Unit 20 is in the Wirral, and MRC in Banbury, so find your closest.

my rear ones were replaced under warranty and price for one was cca. 400gbp, so i'd imagine the front ones are about the same...

Nath, Is the leaking front shock the same side as the knackered wheel bearing?. Both those faulty parts could had played a role for each other... NOT GOOD mate.
RS6Chris, the uprated KW springs have NO effect on either of the components. Mine are perfectly fine and I was the 1st to fit them.

Is that right though? I'll caveat this that my next statement is based on my version of common sense not actual knowledge. Surely a shock has a planned stroke paired with the length of the spring stroke. If you use a shorter spring the shock must be in a shortened more compressed state all the time? The oil / fluid in the shock has to go somewhere so is it not under more pressure all the time, hence making it more likely to leak / fail?

R33, the DRC is very cleaver in sorting that problem out and that's why the pressure tolerance should had been checked after the springs were fitted. I'm sure UNIT-20 would had done that. If like you have said is the case, then mine should be faulty too by now and not forgetting I'm running a more aggressive wheel/ tyre set up which ultimately will put more strain on the shocks etc. Just my opinion and not fact.

Cheers guys its hard for me to say exactly whats wrong as im away working but the garage said the shock was leaking the upper suspension arm was worn and the top mount is worn and i know he is not trying to have me over as he is a mate and has told me it needs to be taken to a specialist place for the shocker. As for shocker position it shouldnt make and diffrence as long as its not bottoming out all the time which its not. On a plus side i have emailed the garage and the guy said he will take care of it just a shame he is miles away and couldnt of come at a worse time really my wife is just about to have a baby and could do with having the car !

I thought you bought the car from a garage? You haven't had the car long - surely they must foot the bill?

Wrekka i did buy it from a garage mate i have emailed them and the guy said he will sort it out so fingers crossed just a shame it means taking the car all the way back to him and he does not have a workshop he uses someone else who i guess possibly dont have the equipment to do the DRC !
