HI all you knowledgeable people.

Well its brake time, as much as I want to go ceramics I want bigger wheels more so just need to change whats on there.

So I have a set of new discs OEM ones, but what pads and brake fluid are you guys all using?

Andy, stick with OEM pads for feel. ATE super blue fluid and Hel brake hoses.

I spent a while looking. Ap racing is a middle ground between oem and ramics. But basically people reckoned it wasn't the leap you'd want for the extra cost, I think they worked out at twice the cost of oem all round.

So without ceramics is it oem ?

Not be long before my car needs fronts doing, cant see AP discs lasting long on theses barges
They didn't last long on my evo

The pagid rs pads were good though, anyone tried these, if available

If you want improved stopping power over the oem 390mm steels, but don't wish to spend the pounds on a ceramic upgrade but can afford a bit more than oem discs, I can highly recommend the MTM 405 mm steels front brake upgrade. Noticeable improvement in ability to pull the beast down from serious speed- 160mph+.

just my two cents worth.

cheers,

£2.5k for 2 discs though, jesus

I know you cant spend enough on something that stops the car well but

Just wondered if anyone has tried different pad combos , not fond of DS2500 or DS3000
Might get some Pagid's and try them

Can vouch for the performance of the ceramics. Absolutely phenominal.

I did send the calipers of to Godspeed but they were appalling. Had them 3 weeks and did bugger all to them due to the fact they were too big to fit in the powder coating oven. Never thought to call or email me. After a lot of chasing managed to get them back a month and a half after they got them. They did however manage to machine new stainless pistons and get a new seal kit. I have now had a local company sort the powdercoating which I pick up tomorrow then need to reinstall the brakes back onto the car. Hopefully this better sort the squealing... :bash:

So, if you can stretch to getting ceramics, do it.

I run AP Racing discs on the rear with DS2500 pads, Tarox 400mm discs up front with Tarox medium compound pads with ATE Super Blue fluid.

I cannot complain at all about the performance, the 16 pot fronts stop the car well and from the few 120mph to 0 stops I’ve done in quick succession enough to have both front and rear discs glowing cherry red, I suffered no brake fade at all.
As for the cost of Ap rears even with the initial outlay of the bells I got them for £696 delivered from BG developments.

They have been on the car a while now and there is no disc wear or “lip” as of yet and I’m not exactly a fanny when it comes to using the brakes, the fronts are the same although next time round I won’t be using tarox discs as they are just too costly just over £1000 for two front’s.
I will be replacing with either AP or Alcon’s depending on BG as with it being a custom Tarox bell the discs will be custom made.

To answer really all I can say is I like the DS2500 pads as a rear setup wear and feel is great as with the AP disc, when running standard pads as good as they were at quickly dissipating the heat and returning to good feel pretty quick I wasn’t happy with the heat retained in the discs and the pads started to break away after a few track days.
The tarox setup is great, it’s nowhere near as good as ceramics but I got the full kit with brand new pads for cheap. I think I’m as close as I can get to ceramics without actually moving to them.
Having used a friends porsche with ramics I prefer my initial bite but continuous use is second to none and heat management is far superior on the ramics, it’s something I’ll upgrade too in the future.
But to the OP I’d say AP discs and DS2500 are a very good/better than OEM replacement, I’d run Pagid RS-19 or 29’s in the front instead of DS2500’s however.
