Sorry but what do I want in an RS6?

Hello to all
OK, I have been lurking for a while and have a simple question with a load of potential answers that must have been asked a thousand times. However having trawled through 9 pages of the forum I can't find what I'm looking for.
The big question is what do I need to look for in a potential RS6?
The long list of answers should cover desired options and spec, recalls, things to check and what to lookout for. Loads really, sorry
So if you could give me some pointers I will be forever grateful and will buy you a pint/Thai bride/scalextric-car at some point in the near future!

I would say in my opinion with these cars is history and warranty before anything else.
I purchased mine blind as an impulse buy which as much as I love the car was silly really but for me it was what's under the bonnet rather than what options it had as I didn't really care if it had tv as its a near in 600 bhp car
Few issues starting to come out now which is impressive bearing in mind the power of the car so look out for oil leaks, sensor faults as these can cost alot to fix also brakes get toasted quickly and not cheap to change so make sure there's plenty of meat left on them but other than that I don't think you can go wrong

Many thanks for the prompt post.
Having had various 400+ bhp cars and having done what you did I know the pitfalls of buying the wrong car. My Porsche 996 Turbo cost me £12k in 2 years so buying a mechanically sound car is top of the agenda.
In terms of options, I suppose I don't really know what the RS6 Avant comes with. I'd like a Sepang blue with cream leather, a sunroof, keyless entry and of course ceramic brakes if poss.
In terms of warranty it may not be an option as I intend to go down the MRC800 route. Expensive obviously, but I really do fancy something obscene and that I can run a various VMAX days.
Looking around the ads it's obvious it's quite a rare beast with only 17 to choose from in Autotrader at present....

The only things I wish I had are the ceramics, they're simply too expensive to retro fit.
Auto open boot is cool. The keyless entry is really nice. The digital pack is the tele and the tuner.
I don't have a sunroof, would like one of those.
MMI 3G rather than 2G. Though I have 2G and no idea what 3G would actually do better.

Alcantara is a big bonus for me. Leather is hot in summer, cold in winter and slippy in the twisty stuff.

The corner doesn't corner hard enough to worry about the seats in the twisty stuff

I am in the process of buying an 09 Sepang RS6 Avant and have just been through the same thought process.
What I did is look at all available options/colour combos etc and come up with the car that I would have bought from new. Then set about finding it.
Top of the list, as mentioned, should be FASH. It needs to be looked after as I would have from new.
I then decided that Sepang Avant is what I wanted, with black leather. Options required were Bose, Privacy Glass, Heated F/R seats, Advanced Key, Soft close doors, power boot, MMI High with TV, sun roof and Homelink. A 700+ PS tune and Milltek would be added bonus
Took me 3 months but found the car, had to compromise on Homelink, but the price was good, history good and everything else was there. It even has the soot-pipe and an MTM 702 BHP tune, but this may be changed to an MRC stage 2 + gearbox map reasonably soon. A very helpful forum member checked it over for me as I was 3500 miles away; it was great to have this check before I flew in to buy it!
The only issue was the 'dreaded oil weep' but as I have time before collecting the garage is getting this fixed. And not with an oil additive

full engine out job. The showroom have been a pleasure to deal with, bending over backwards to accommodate me, that's an added bonus too.
Really looking forward to collecting the car when I fly in for Christmas, will be interesting to compare ownership to the XFR I have just come out of. One thing I hope MRC will be able to change is the gearbox reverting back to automatic when in Sport. I don't like that when you use the paddles in sport it decides to drop back into automatic after a period of time; nothing worse than eating up B roads in 4th and, just as you come to a long sweeper it decides to drop into 6th

The XFR would stay in paddle mode until you told it not to.

As many have said .. dealers have no clue on what was / wasn't standrard, so learn that thread inside out .. PM me and I'll either send you a link to or email you the 4 PDF UK sales brochures as well
As for spec .. they where prety amazing spec'd cars as standard .. Drive a few and you will find the right one
Sepang with Silver interior (official name for the cream you ref) is an amazing combo... there are a load of pics of mine on this forum, Sun roof was not a commonly taken option
