Gearbox service

Post by vestax32 » Wed Nov 12, 2014 8:35 am

Car is on 70k and I don't think gearbox has been serviced. As the car is on a comprehensive Audi warranty should I not worry about it, as if anything goes wrong they will have to sort it anyway?! If I did get it done, would there be any noticeable difference?

Hi there

I had mine done as soon as I bought it at 77k miles purely as a precautionary measure, I decided NOT to have the Audi warranty however.

The car did seem smoother although how much of that is placebo I have no idea.

Most people in the know say to have it done (tho differ on mileage of when, and how frequent, to do it)

I guess, for you, it depends how long you tend to keep the car and if it will remain on the Audi warranty (I believe it stops after 100k miles?)

I will not have it past 100k, so don't think I'll bother. Thanks for the info.

I spoke to my local audi garage and they said they don't do gearbox oil changes!

I do have a local mechanic who I would trust with anything, he really specialises in subaru/Evo and builds/runs rally cars but also maintains a number of porsche/lotus/GTR's etc. I'd be happy for him to do the job but he's never done one before.

Does anyone have a link to the service manual for changing the oil and filter?

Cheers

It's not a simple drain and refill the oil so best you find someone who has done it before and have access to VAG Com. The whole process takes about 6 hours to complete.
Too much power is barely enough.
