Front R8 pads in the RS6?

Post by tartan_rob » Tue Jul 22, 2014 5:09 pm

I am talking standard steel brakes. The calipers look the same. If the center support is removed to fit the pads, will the R8 front pads fit?

The V10 Touareg has the same calipers and the pads on there are single each side.

I am somewhat interested in a response too. Although, I'd like to know the advantages to the R8 pads, if any. I've been looking for a better pad on the C6 caliper but they're pretty thin on the ground, I think DS2500 are possible but I cannot find any info or prices on the web.

Sorry if this appears as a thread hijack, I just thought I'd expand on your question.

I'm sure they are different calipers?

R8 is 8 pot as c5 & b7

C6 is 6 pot?

C5 & B7 is a two piece pad, what about the R8?

I thought they were 8 piston front calipers with individual pads for each piston. Did a quick google and it looks like I may be right......

Ok. So pad options for the C6 steel setup is still pretty limited.
- Mintex Blues RS4-2 (I think these would be an unknown on the C6)
- DS2500 (which probably won't hold up, for the money they are, no worth it)
- Carbon-Tec made to order various applications (probably best option and 100-200 notes more than OEM)
- Brembo/OEM (just sufficient and good value)

Anyone else wanna chip in?

The 8 pads are for 2x calipers, there's 2 pistons per pad. The R8 is the same I think (going off google images)

Ahh yes you're right obviously. I just thought the RS6 had standard pads, one pad each side of the caliper so very different to the R8? I'm pretty sure it's the same on my ceramics too.

If the Standard calliper is 6 pot is it not better to swap out for 8 pot and fit a wider choice of pad??

No. The 8pot cannot handle larger discs, IIRC, 380mm is the max without comprising sweep. The 6pot is a longer calliper design, I think it'll hold up to 405mm with 390mm as standard on the C6.
That said, a good two-piece 380mm disc, 8pots and some hard-core pads would be better than the current 390mm 6pot OEMs. You could fit 18s and track rubber too with 380s.
Must. Stop. Thinking. About. This.

Interesting

I have touareg 6 and 8 pot calipers
6 are 2 pads per caliper
8 are quad pad per caliper

Obviously better heat dispersion in quad pad I would think but I didn't know the Rs6 c6 was a custom 6 pot to accommodate bigger disc
My gt brembo 8 pot as you say bam is 380 disc and that is like a bin lid
Presumably no chance to put a custom carrier to extend the sweep diameter
