Turbo oil leak!

Post by vangelis » Sat Jul 12, 2014 6:16 pm

While dropping the car for minor service, the dealer reported an oil leak with one of the turbos and recommended replacing! thanks god I have extended warranty as the estimated cost was some crazy Fu$*k figure. Wondering how often this happen? is it common or known with C6? as I had the C5 for over 3 years and never came across such issue with C5! While replacing any of them, does it required to replace both for any reason? Thanks

the turbos should always be replaced in pair, that's what Audi recommends. This is to prevent any boost differences that might be caused by having an old turbo on one bank and a new one on the other, obviously a new turbo will perform better than one with 60-70k miles on it...

however, the oil leak might be due to a cracked oil pipe that feeds the turbo and not the actual turbo, have they confirmed it is indeed the turbo?
thank God for the warranty, this would've really pissed your bank account :)

that's good to know all is good now! you know that $10K is the limit for the extended warranty, they won't cover beyond that amount...hopefully you won't have other issues...as dumb as it sounds is true, at least at the Abu Dhabi Audi dealership, maybe it is different with Al Nabooda but i doubt it since both use the same company for extended warranties...

Update: after 2 weeks of having one of the turbos replaced and two (2) of Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249) replaced also, car is driving very good and no signs of any power loss or any oil leakage anymore. However, was running a scan after the job and found the below mentioned errors. I saved the first log and cleared the errors, did a test drive and full day drive and errors never appear again. Today I was doing a scan and found out that errors back again! any idea what could be the reason??

No it's not coming on and car drive absolutely fine. I'm going to drop it to the dealer tomorrow to investigate! Hope it won't be a bad parts otherwise engine and gear out again!

A quick update to everyone on the root cause of that error, what I thought of was correct. After the car got a new turbo installed and this error start to show every time I scan, It turned up that other turbo also need to be replaced although it does not show any kind of leakage or fault. The dealer agreed (finally) that old turbo is not capable of producing the same exact requested boost like the new turbo that just installed. Hence, I'm getting the other turbo replaced :D

I hope this will resolve the issue and make some difference on the dyno and show 700+ BHP in real :)
