C6 Exhaust Options ? & Headlight Fogging Up ?

Post by rsrodders » Sat Jun 21, 2014 10:16 pm

Hi, even though i absolutely love the tone coming from the standard pipes i'm after something that gives me that little bit more GGGROWL and somebody was saying to me not to get rid of the cats as it makes it a little raspy ?? I'd love to put an Akropovic on if they do them but not if it costs an arm and a leg.

On a different note, the drivers headlight after a good washing or if its been belting it down with ran, starts to fog up and its really pissing me off, does anyone know if there was ever a recall on them or what the options are to cure it, as when its been washed and you drive it down the road its as though its got a foggy eye and it takes a good 24hrs for it to dry up.

regards
Clive

Funny enough my headlight does exactly the same?

I think there was a recall for headlights?

Not sure if mine was ever recalled by first owner(probably not)

I just let it dry out....is annoying though.

Recall involved adding or changing grommets. Reality is that many do it, so considered a feature.

I had MRC remove the cats and the noise is just right for me. Loud when you want it and quietish when you don;t it is a halfway house between std and noisey after market.

I assumed it would fail the MOT without cats so chose another option. Standard exhaust with front silencers removed. I find it's just spot on and will go straight through MOT.
Had the light problem previous owner had one replaced under warranty but they still both look slightly hazy. Audi showed me the door even with the full comprehensive warranty. They said the lights were designed to get a small amount of condensation in as they are all plastic now and I should put the lights on for a period each time this occurs and it will dry out. Total LOB !!!

There are 4cats on the C6. 2 pre cats and 2 mains. The pre's are a nightmare so I had the mains removed. She'll she pass an mot like that.

Sorry a few questions:

Has your car passed an MOT since you had the CAT's removed?

Did MRC gut them or remove them and fit bypass pipes?

Is there any VAGCOM needed once the CAT's are removed to cater for removing the CAT sensors?

How much louder is it? Is there any motorway drone when cruising between 70-100?

Do you know if it made any power difference?

How much did it cost?

Thanks :)

Cheers guys for all your replies, its given me food for thought, hopefully going to get the stage 2 from MRC soon so i'll pick there brains also as regards de-catting it rather than going the full exhaust root.

Cheers

The first round of owners with headlight condensation discovered it via DRL failures.. I had both headlights replaced (all be it 4 weeks apart) under warranty / recall

I have removed my secondary cats and welded 2 straight through sections in place.
there are no joints around the second cats so they have to be cut out and new pipes welded in.

There is a nice deep rumble when the car is stood still at around 1000rpm.

on a motor way run at 70 - 80 there is no noticeable increase in noise at all as there isn't a great deal of pressure in the exhaust system.

when you plant the fast pedal thats when you get the noise, its just right. not too loud so everyone stares at you but you know it means business :biggrin3:

All 4 lambda sensors are in front of the secondary cats so it will never bring up and fault codes or warning lights.

I dont think removing them makes a huge difference to the power but i was told By MRC when they mapped my car that it helps with the torque. mine produces 728ps and 1021Nm.

hope this helps.

With secondary cats removed would that not fail the MOT. I thought they had to be in place even if it passes on emissions ??

Im not too sure on that to be honest. Main cats are in so emissions wont be an issue but i m not aware of them having to be in place even if it passes emissions.

mine goes into AAS on Thurs for their catback system... i was chatting to them about removing the cat's
bottom line they will not remove the cats (happy for me to do it myself) as they (as a business) would be liable for a £5,000 fine if they did remove them and the car was 'caught' running without them.

Ah so yours was going to be the car AAS were going to make my system from couldn't get all the way up to them. Mine should have been made using another car two months ago but unfortunately that car got rear ended the day before.
AAS were really helpful when I was looking and very understanding when I decided to go another route. Two months was just too long to wait. Sounds like a great system at a good price
