Newbie - C6 RS6 hunting!

Post by GC1978 » Sun Mar 31, 2013 10:59 pm

New round these parts - regular on PH etal.
Been looking for an RS6 for the last couple of months, really hard to find a good one.
I am looking for a 2009 car, with <40k on the clock and from Audi due to warranty.

Very few cars out there - I know there are not that many on the roads but still its a mission to find the above.
The last few months there has been little change in the UK stock and at most 15 cars for sale at any one time.
I want an Avant but TBH its looking like I might have to try and stretch to a Plus to find something thats within my requirements.

Anyone else looking?

Also, looking for thoughts on what will happen to used prices once the C7 hits the road - which is due very soon I guess.
The current average price for a non plus from audi is around £36k.

Yes I am sad enough to keep a spread sheet of prices...

Thanks y'all! :bigwave:

Yeah I saw that but its 08. They reduced it by £1k last week too.
There are only 3 2009 cars in the Audi network at the mo.

One at Worcester, 70,000 miles so out of the ball park for me.
West London have one but its miles away from me and £38k and got 40,000 on the clock. If it was closer I might go and have a look but its 200+ miles away.
Nottingham have one thats perfect - but its bright red! Not for me - thought about a wrap on that but its also £38k and I think the colour would be a problem come re-sale.

Its just a waiting game I think. There seems to be very little movement in stock so I might be waiting a while :|

My i be so bold as to direct you towards :

http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=103054

2009 car but with 44k miles. Im located in Scotland so might be a little too far again. Car has audi extended warranty that is transferable.
All details in ad.

No worries if it isnt the one for you.

One thing to watch out for is many 2009 cars were built in 2008 and sat for a while unregistered due to the unfortunate timing of release, hence many dont have the 3G MMI which came in 2009 - might not matter but good to know if you you are specific on year of build.

Good luck with your search.

Don''t waste your time with the West London one as IMO it is over priced for an average specification and it has quite a few stone chips on it.

From personal experience a trip to Scotland can be very worthwhile. I ended up acquiring my 09 black C6 from forum member Pau1 just north of Aberdeen which was a well looked after example, had less than 31k on the clock, various upgrades (2010 rear lights, 2010 starter button and black OEM grille, etc) plus a mp on res cat back Milltek. Cost me a shade over £37k in late Jan this year which was a fair price. Not bothered at all about the extended Audi warranty as not worth the cost IMO on the C6 - of course I had one for my C5 Plus but the C6's are a totally different level of risk and have a far better track record on reliability.

Good luck with your search

Thanks buddy.
Whats the deal with the 2010 lights? I thought they were the same from 08 onwards?

Not sure I concur on the warranty. If you get a fault with the running gear it is going to rinse you. I'd sooner have piece of mind and cough up the relatively small beer for a warranty than get bummed if the worst happens.

Each to their own though.

The 2010 A6 Avants had upgraded LED rear light clusters (more LED's and a different shape of LED configuration I think) - they look the business although when not illuminated it is difficult to spot the difference

Fair comment - I know many who have great value out of their warranties and many who have made no claim at all. For me as I'm doing no more than 6/7k miles a year and have an ongoing rainy day fund I do not feel the need for an extra level of peace of mind but as you say everybody to their own :beerchug:

Re the warranty - I think for the first year or so I will defo want a warranty for my own sanity - once I can trust the car I might consider no warranty but we will see.
I only do very limited miles <5k a year, so I might get away without one but I guess any large item fails its will be ££££ but in reality I dont think there will be major problems anyway from the sounds of things.

Still will want main dealer backup for that first year.

Thanks for the update on the lights!
